I'm still alive

Tomorrow begins the deluge of final papers from my students. Fortunately I got the rest of the grading done for my class last week. Planning on finishing all of that up on Thursday, and then I've got a thesis chapter to revise, and then I'll be done for the semester (and will most likely collapse in a twitching, exhausted heap under my desk).

Thanksgiving break I got to visit my family in Syracuse. Mom said I looked like I'd lost a bit of weight, so she proceeded to stuff me full of food every single day I was there. We had a quiet dinner at home on Thanksgiving day, with just me, my parents, my brother, and one of my sisters with her husband and their son. I thought it was a nice change of pace from previous years, when all of my relatives (my family being Catholic, there's like 27,483 of them) would congregate for a big raucous gathering at my grandparent's house, and I'd have to find somewhere to hide from all the noise...

Last Friday mlc and I went up to Syracuse to do some Christmas shopping, and then we went to see The Fountain, which was opening that day. I have to say, Aronofsky is very good at making the pretty. mlc was trying to discuss the movie with me afterwards, and I didn't have much to say, because I spent the whole time watching the pretty, instead of, like, paying attention to the plot or anything.

Also, according to the movie, people of the future are going to be floating around in giant bubbles while performing some kind of levitation yoga. And all this time I thought they would be pushing buttons, firing plasma weapons, and staring at computer monitors while shouting random bits of scientific jargon at each other.
