I'm back
Finally finished my thesis prospectus and turned it in this morning. I am so relieved to finally have that finished. Will be taking the A-exam (fancy Cornell name for quals*) sometime next week, but I'm not too worried about it.
Overheard in the library today: "I had this really weird dream that a giant meteor was going to crash into the earth, and I was watching an emergency session of the UN on tv. They decided to reform Pangaea on the other side of the planet from where the meteor was going to hit, but Britain refused to join for some reason. At the last minute, a giant arm came out of France and pulled England toward it."
* I still remember at the orientation meeting for new grad students in our department, the chair of grad studies saying, "You'll need to pick at least three professors in the field of linguistics for your Special Committee. There's nothing special about the Special Committee, really, that's just what they call it here."
