Epic Weekend

Apr 04, 2011 00:28

Saturday I got A BUTT LOAD of unpacking and organizing accomplished. Our single bathroom was completely unpacked and organized and big random box of "toiletries" no longer sits on the counter top all has been given a home and put away. I further organized two sets of four plastic storage drawers, one of which is being utilized in the bathroom and the other is in the downstairs closet--currently empty--for hopefully tidy tool storage. I emptied and found places for the contents of many boxes. So many so that I posted more boxes available on free cycle and had enough for two people to come and take from the pile AND I still have a couple that weren't taken. I set aside a ton of stuff to be stored in the garage in packed plastic tubs, yay!

The house is looking pretty ok, I think by the end of next weekend we will be nearly, if not completely unpacked. The front room of the house is nearly empty and besides a couple small book shelves for dvds and a rug we don't have any other furniture--YET--that lives in there. The next big thing I really need to finish is unpacking the kitchen, which is going to involve organizing my pantries, which is a big chore. If you been to my house, you know I have a lot of food--ingredients--on hand for the many things Oliver and I like to cook and bake. It's kind of ridiculous and I really hope to scale in back to "normal" levels of consumption one of these days. (Part of my issue is having grown up without food at times, I take real comfort in seeing a lot of dry goods.) I'm really wanting to nest more, deep clean walls and ceilings so I can paint more rooms. I want to hang our mirrors and our art. I want it to feel more ours.

I also feel a pull to work on the yard, but logically it is quite low on the priority list, as are some of my paint projects by the way. The weather has just been so spectacular it makes me want to landscape my front planter--till and plant, till and plant. Maybe I could have a tulip bed, one the cats couldn't get to and wouldn't eat?

Saturday evening dylanbd came over and I made food and we played Dominion and Stone Age and it was awesome. It had been far too long since I visited with just Dylan; it was so fantastic to catch up.

Today, Sunday, I woke at 10 had a bowl of cereal and then cooked and baked my morning away. I made a 4 layer cake for spaghettisquash 's birthday party in the city. The cake was half devil's food, half coconut cake, with homemade raspberry jam and chocolate almond frosting. Everyone seemed to enjoy and the birthday girl was oh so happy to have half a cake left to take home.

The party was at this awesome pub and curry house in the North Beach area. I enjoyed the best cider I've ever had along with some super fine company, including friends I'd not seen in far too long. It was very relaxing and wonderful.

I even knitted and just quietly enjoyed the conversation around me. I nearly finished one of my two lace socks, which is awesome 'cause there are some timely projects coming down the pipe that need to be complete before August.

I came home to a bunch of email responses from freecycle folk who will come tomorrow and take away even more stuff we don't need. Yay! Freecycle really does rock socks; the community you can tap there is pretty epic actually. I hella LOVE Oakland! Ha!

Life is good. I'm feeling great. I have the best of friends. It really has been a whole new world since this last surgery. If you were thinking I've seemed different lately, I am and this is the me I hope to stay; this is the best version of myself--the me I want to be.
