for those going to/ already attending college

hey guys. so i've been discussing this matter with my parents to no avail. what kind of computer to you have/ reccomend having for your dormroom in college? I'm thinking laptop, but my dad thinks that if I get a desktop i will get more bang for the buck. but thats the cost of convenience for the laptop. also, if i do indeed end up taking a laptop, it will most likely be a hand-me-down from my father (which, p.s., he's not sure he's willing to give up). it's still a very good computer, but it falls a bit short of AU's reccomended specs for students' computers.

thoughts, comments and reccomendations are muchly appreciated :)
