Aug 19, 2014 10:51

It wasn't that early but it was still far earlier than Hatter liked getting up in the morning. He wasn't exactly sure what had woken him but there was some strange niggling in his head, like something had returned and if he didn't get his ass in gear, he was going to miss it ( Read more... )

Vic had decided to go on patrol today instead of sitting behind a desk. There's only so much of Ralph that you can take.

Of course when you wander about this town you tend to find odd things. Like the hat guy talking to a mirror.

"You're not expecting it to talk back, are you?" Vic asked skeptically.

Hatter whirled around and stuck his hands on his hips. Then, he decided a shrug would work as the best possible first response.

"Did you expect little sea creatures to rain from the sky the other day?"

[Sorry for the delay, got caught up doing errands]

"No. But I wasn't trying to talk to them either," Vic replied having no problem putting her hands on her hips. "Is the mirror harassing you, sir? Do I need to give it a ticket for loitering?"

Sarcasm was second nature to Vic.

"Would you actually do it if I said yes?" he wondered curiously.

"Wouldn't be the weirdest thing I ever tried to arrest," Vic said rolling her eyes. "Though I'm less likely to get shot at by a mirror."

"Go on, then," Hatter said, deciding to call the bluff. "It's been harassing me and I want to press charges."

"All right-y then," Vic said sighing as she pulled out her notebook and pen. "Can you give me the dates, times and description of the harassment sir?"

Hey. She can call bluffs too, Hatter!

"Today, just now, and being a giant pain in the ass when it's not warranted," Hatter said succinctly.

"Can you describe the giant pain in the ass, sir?" Vic asked looking over her sunglasses. "Being annoying isn't exactly what I would call harassment."

"It's been here, hanging out outside my place of business and not buying anything when I told it to buy something," Hatter said. It was a complete lie but truth telling wasn't a great talent of his.

And he wasn't winning points for sanity at this point either.

"I see," Vic said writing 'Reminder: Kill Walt for sending me here when I eventually go home' on her note pad. She then looked back up at Hatter with weary look.

"Do you seriously expect this mirror to walk into your restaurant and pay for food?"

"No but I also didn't expect to poison a friend of mine because some evil carnival wanted to come to town," he said, shaking his head. "I've learned to expect the unexpected over my time."

"Fine," Vic said rolling her eyes. She walked over to the mirror hesitated at the stupidity and announced: "You're under arrest for... Loitering."

She sighed again and went to pick up the mirror to carry it away.

"Wait no, don't take it!" Hatter said, reaching out to grab the mirror. "No, that's okay. Just give it a ticket or some such. I don't want it to go to jail."

"Are you serious?!" Vic groaned looking up at the sky. "This is what my life has become?"

She pulled out her ticket book and started scrawling out a ticket. For a mirror.

"I have officially gone insane," she declared as she wrote the ticket.

"What's so wrong with being insane?" Hatter asked, raising an eyebrow. "It's a lot more than being boringly normal, isn't it?"

To him it was but he was the guy with the word 'Mad' in front of his name. Sometimes.
