You know, I really need to learn more stuff with regard to poi. I mean, I can do some stuff with it, but I've been looking on YouTube recently for some poi videos. To be honest, a lot of them are pretty dire. A lot of them seem to be "Hey, look! I can do the weave!" and "Hey, look! I can do the weave really fast!". Yeah, I like the weave, but to be honest, if you do things fast you lose control too easily. Well not that you lose control, but that doing it slower requires more control because you'll notice the flaws easier.
But yes, it seems that the weave seems to be a common plateau for a lot of people. They get to that stage and decide "That's it. I know poi now." After looking at some of the people out there, I'd rather not be one of the Weave-only people... I really would rather not.
Speaking of which, I really should make some sock poi. I'm beginning to see that there are some tricks that are much much easier with them, like stalls and the like. Some of the more impressive displays I've seen have been with sock poi.
Anyway, one of the clips I've seen is a guy with sock poi - I'm not sure how work-safe it would be to play videos of half-nekkid men doing poi, but I'd hazard a NSFW. He says it's pretty rubbish in that shot, but he's still streets ahead of me. That said, he's not too bad on the eyes either.
