EU: Oracle is clear to buy Sun Irish Times article on it Wow. It's finally happened. Just over 9 months in the making. So now I'm an employee of a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oracle until such time that we're folded in wholesale.
There's some sort of relief there. All the teetering and suspension was nerve-wracking (although, it has to be said that such things sound like they could make for a good night in) and it's nice to know it's happened. I didn't comment on the entire drama of it all (and to a techy with an interest in this matter, it was like a bloody soap opera) because we were asked not to say/write anything that could impact on the analysis of the DoJ or the EU. That's done now - although the order isn't officially lifted. Seriously, it had as many twists, turns and surprise appearances from obscure characters in the Open Source world that it could easily pass as an episode of some US Days Of Our Lives clone of a soap opera.
I'm glad it's happened now because we've already laid off 9,000 heads more than we wanted because the merger happened later than we wanted, hemorrhaging money as we waited. So to keep ourselves alive, we had to cull a bunch of people, including the manager I had as an intern.
So, now it's done. I'm relieved. Now we get to see how it goes from here.
