my birthday gift to myself was the 'band of brothers' boxset. i've already watched four episodes & the documentary, and... wow.
there is ugly shit happening all over the world & there is a lot of ugly shit that has already happened. but how can something so terrible, that causes/d so many people so much pain made to look so beautiful. this show has really ripped my heart to shreds and i haven't even got to the 'bad' part. it's amazing - terrible & terrifying. i love pretty much everything about it!
the look - all muted colours, subtle lighting, and how it's filmed - just, i don't know... *speechless* and the actors, omg. damian lewis, you own my heart! *flails* but EVERYONE is awesome. i can't believe that david schwimmer was in there as well, okay he played an asshole, but he was good! and ron livingston, neal mcdonough, even james mcavoy was in there for half an hour or so (then he got killed :/ ) & scott grimes, simon pegg... and then the original men of easy company who talk at the beginning of each part...

i know why it took me so long to start watching this, (cause it is brutal & horrifying and makes me cry) but omg. i will never forget it, it's so raw. and still so beautiful... i am blown away by this series. will soon watch the rest - and i will probably have to go search for some winters/nixon fic at some point. although i can see why it's sort of a tricky fandom (is there one at all?), cause all these people existed for real. hmm... let's see if i can still enjoy those fic (i know i will, *sigh*)
[ETA: scratch that, i just read the first fics - AWESOME! can't even wait until i've finished the series, i realized i needed some fluff/love in-between the horror. & also: here, have a pretty nixon/winters picspam]
+ i don' tknow if everyone already knows this, but it looks like steven spielberg & tom hanks are in the process of making a second mini-series about wwII. about the pacific theatre this time... called 'the pacific', heh.
so. more palm trees in this one...
