OMG, I'm still to blow away by that ep to comment clearly. At first I was upset that Sammy really wasn't in the ep but after I'm thinking Jared should be jealous as hell that he wasn't in it. Gorgeous storytelling, great surprises and Jensen nearly had me in tears (which is hard to do during a TV show).
Mitch Pileggi was PERFECT as Dean's grandfather!

I noticed Dean and his grandfather have some of the same mannerisms. And since that was MP picking up mannerisms from JA... brilliant!

I totally did NOT see Mary being a hunter coming! That blew me away.

My heart hurts even more for John now, because he's such a gentle soul who had his world ripped apart, and was forced to become what he became. *wibbles*

I love, love, LOVE that the YED's endgame is stil in play, and even the Angels don't know what it is! OMG!! How cool is that?!?!? *g*

No, threatening Sam isn't the best way to get Dean's help, but otoh, at least it's honest. "You fix this, or we will." *gnaws knuckles*

Okay... that works within the mythos and I'll adopt it for the sake of story but I still think it was sloppy writing. I think they were trying just a little too hard to wring our hearts with how much poor John got destroyed by Mary's death.
