this shit gets old [nudge captaine_sykes]

Worse than the sickness, worse than losing his powers and then practically freezing -how the hell did people stand being that cold all the time- Pyro was fast developing a hatred for the medical facility and its security, or lack of. He came out of the place in worse shape than he went in ( Read more... )

Ethan isn't in his office whilst Allerdyce is debating whether coming to see the Captain is a good idea or not. He does however come around the corner, thanking one of the administrators for their assistance and carrying a mug of coffee. His striding pace slows and Ethan clears his throat, recognizing the back of Allerdyce as he comes to a halt beside the younger mutant. "Everything alright there Allerdyce? Did you want to see..."

He trails off at the sight of Pyro's injuries though. He had no idea, there had been no report or information about Pyro receiving these injuries and that sets alarm bells off. Reaching past Pyro he opens his office door and waits for Pyro to enter. "Have a seat."

This time though Ethan is gesturing to the comfortable seating rather than the formal office chairs.

It's automatic to just go with it, St John walking through and sort of standing there in the middle of the floor until Sykes directs him to the seats and even then he doesn't know why he's sitting down, he just is.

"Um, yeah." He doesn't know which of Sykes' questions he's answering, the everything alright or the want to see-. It was probably the second one. "I'm not actually sure."

He didn't actually feel like himself. It was like that cold, hard realisation while he was sick that he really was just a stupid little kid and that was bad news around here. "I don't think so though." He knew he wasn't making sense, but he was trying to convey that things weren't okay.

Pouring St John a double bourbon with no ice he sets it down in his hands before taking the seat opposite. Clearly the guy is in shock of some sort or something more serious has happened and now Ethan is going to be faced with big news. News he doesn't want or need.

But still, as much as Ethan might feel like he's banging his head against the wall with the likes of St John, he knows that Mac thinks the kid is alright.

"What happened?" Ethan sets his mug of coffee down onto the table, elbows braced on his knees as he studies Pyro, cataloguing the injuries he can see and starting to put a few ideas together of who could have done this.

It's a wonder he can actually get his fingers around the glass and make them stay there so it doesn't slip. He's really not sure if he should bother with the drink, hell knows he usually avoids it on principal, but he's well aware just how he's coming across.

"Um," and my God, he had a better vocabulary than this. "There might've been a fight. There also might've been a few threats." Again. "I'm not sure. About the threats. I'm pretty sure about the fight." Oh, fuck it. He took a sip of the bourbon. And then another, because fuck he needed to at least get the words out.

"I ah, I got sick, but I don't think it would've really made a difference anyway. He keeps going for the rib cage." And Pyro's got a whole lot of interesting bruises under his shirt.

Ethan's got his straight-faced poker look going on as he is listening, but it's fairly obvious that he knows who he is going to have to deal with once this conversation it over and done with.

"Just take your time, when did it happen? Who did you fight with?" Ethan's careful not to force any words into Allerdyce's mouth and if he doesn't want to disclose anything then that is fine. This time it's going to be on Pyro's terms and if he wants to drop a certain person in the shit then that's alright. Ethan is willing to wait.

"I gather you've had the cure though?" Ethan's tempted to press his hand to his forehead and check if Pyro is running a fever but there's no point. Not when the gesture might freak him out more.

The touch wouldn't be welcome at the best of time. Right then it was greatly unwelcome. "Yeah, got my powers back about an hour ago, let me out of the medical centre a few hours before that though." Mostly because he wasn't staying there any longer. Sipping the drink again, St John wasn't even tasting it at all ( ... )

There was no point in advising Pyro to return to the medical center and Ethan wasn't stupid enough to tempt fate, though he did toy with the idea momentarily before pushing the thought aside. The kid looks on the edge enough as it is.

It's so close, the admission that Jack is responsible for the attacks on Allerdyce but until the kid says the words Ethan doesn't want to push it too far. Instead he listens, taking note and become more and more angry at the details that Pyro is revealing.

"There is only so much I can do Allerdyce without you giving the information to me, with names and specifics, so I can make sure he gets given hell for what he's done." Ethan's tempted to add that he'll be speaking to Jack and making it perfectly clear that next time he dares to go near Pyro it'll be Ethan's weapon that Jack will have to face down.

"Did you want something else to drink?"

He wants a corner, he wants a paper bag. But that's just stupid and his ribs would probably protest. "No, I-" he's not sure how much about his life is actually in his file, but he'll go for broke anyway, "my powers get a little whacked when I drink alcohol." And he doesn't want to burn down the dorm building thanks to being twitchy ( ... )

There are things in Pyro's file that would have seemed meaningless at the time to him but were still recorded down and saved for eternity. The notes about alcohol are probably in there too but at that moment in time Ethan wasn't exactly thinking about trawling through the intel and making sure he didn't give Allerdyce something that would make him twitchy.

Finally though Ethan gets what he needs, Pyro giving the specifics, a name and an acqusation. Though that said Ethan would have been checking the security footage from the hospital, seeing what time Hendley entered the building and evidence on the records of whether Allerdyce had these injuries prior to his admission.

Leaning back in his chair Ethan watches as Allerdyce paces, poor kid must be going crazy and Ethan can't help but feel partially responsible. When he finds Jack he's going to make sure he learns a lesson.

"Allerdyce, tell me... confirm for me that this physical attack wasn't the first time Hendley has tried to injure you in some way. Is it?"

Everything just annoys him right then. Especially Sykes' constant use of his last name, but he just can work up the steam to get pissed. He's too busy with the worry and fear and pain and fucking paranoia ( ... )

And this is exactly what Ethan needs. Now he has a chance to truly make Hendley suffer as all these things will go on record and against the mutant hunter. He knows that there is no chance that he can kick the guy off the team, Stryker managed to get his claws into the high-ups, convinving them that the mutants in camp need to be watched over just incase they decide to uprise, but really the biggest threat around here is Hendley ( ... )

Funnily enough, telling Sykes the truth doesn't feel like that bullshit 'weight off the shoulders' that people talk about. Frankly, it just feels like a pile of crap ( ... )

"Allerdyce I can't offer you any other alternative other than a military escort everywhere, which I'm fairly confident you won't want." There's a slight frown at the comment that starts off questioning being stuck with Mac and then evolves into a glare when Pyro concludes with the delightful touch of whatever it is you do around here?. "What I do is run the camp Allerdyce ( ... )

Ethan doesn't respond to the snide remarks or sneering from Allerdyce, the Captain is all too well aware that this is bluster and bullshit designed to make Pyro feel better about himself. That said Ethan would still very much like it if the door did slam on Pyro as he left. Please.

Waiting till the door clicked shut, Ethan lowered his head to his desk and repeatedly bash it against the wooden surface. Maybe Ethan would get lucky and Pyro would successfully drown himself in the bathroom sink. Though that said the sheer quantity of paperwork he'd have to fill in would be horrific.
