Incurable Cough of Death *OTA*

Apr 11, 2011 22:49

It had started with a headache. Daken had woken up and felt like someone had taken a jackhammer to the inside of his head all night. That had been most unusual to being with, but not unheard of. With heightened senses, some sensory overload was to be expected at certain points. With all the stubbornness of a true feral, he simply ignored it and carried on as best he could, only acting even more surly and snappish than usual.

The next day, when the cough started, it had been a little harder to ignore the fact that something was wrong. Daken didn't get sick. More to the point, he couldn't. His healing factor, present since birth, had always taken care of anything that might have gotten into his system. Yet here he was, hacking away like a chain smoker without a lung. He should have gone to the doctor on base. But what could she do? Run tests, give him some pills, and generally be a useless lump. No thanks. He'd take his chances.

He knew anything that was affecting him now was obviously serious. With an immune system that had never been use and that had suddenly had to overcompensate as his healing factor began to slowly be overwhelmed by the virus, his condition began to go downhill fast on the third day. The cough had grown steadily worse, making its way into his chest and settling there. Too proud to actually seek out any help for whatever was going wrong with it, Daken had taken refuge in the library, trying unsuccessfully to stifle the coughs that seemed to be coming all the way from his lungs.
