[Arrival] Someone call the gay guys from Makeover, stat

Jan 13, 2011 13:36

"Dude, are these cuffs really necessary?" Jubilee whined for the fifth time in what she could only judge as having been an hour, shifting in her seat uncomfortably and looking from soldier to soldier. Yet again, her question had gone unanswered and she was really getting tired of the silent treatment ( Read more... )

Bradley made a mental note to get John to pay up the bet he had made on how long it would be before the next arrival showed up. He'd been outside, trying to get some damn cell service when the Humvee pulled up and the very colorfully dressed mutant got out.

He chuckled at the mouthy Asian girl's last comment. The place really did look like a mess, especially with all the signs of recent battle still all over the place. "I'd watch that show."

Dropping her bag at her feet, Jubilee folded her arms across her chest and took a moment to just pout. She clearly hadn't grown up in her three years away from Logan and Betsy and wasn't ashamed of it either.

Hearing Bradley's comment, she spun on her heel and grinned slightly. Finally, someone with a sense of humor. "Seriously, I think someone needs t'start a petition."

As always, Bolt was relieved to see a team member who didn't snarl and snap at every person who tried to be social. He gave the girl a friendly smile as he shut the cell phone and stuck it in the pocket of his sweatshirt. Today had been a cold one on the base.

"Doubt the commanders would approve of a camera crew." Bradley thought for a moment then added on. "Well, maybe not Emma. She's more than just a touch fashion conscious."

"It might be what this place needs. Along with some uber-chic redecoratin'. And this Emma chick sounds like my friggin' hero."

Which probably wasn't the case at all, but she'd never met the White Queen, and even then she'd probably prefer her to Psylocke anyday.

"Y'got a name, cutie?"

"You go ahead with that plan, darling. Let me know how it all turns out for you," Chris said, teasing lightly. The day Emma and Sykes agreed to a makeover there would be icicles hanging off the roof of Hell.

She seemed awful young to Bradley, although he supposed that may have just been his team-weary attitude coloring his vision again. There really was no way to tell with some mutants. "The name's Chris Bradley or Bolt if we're going to get all codenamey. Yourself?"

"Jubilee. That's it. Like... Madonna. Or Bono."

While it was technically her codename, it was also the only name she allowed anyone to call her. Ever since her parents had died, she refused to let anyone but Logan call her Jubilation. And if anyone tried? They'd get a fist full of fireworks for it.

"Dude. I might just have t'do it myself."

Bradley stuck out a hand, shaking Jubliee’s warmly. “Nice to meet you, rockstar.” Looks like she had already picked up a nickname from the technopath. But hey, she was the one who had made the comparisons to singers in the first place.

It was time for standard question number two. “So what’s your power?”

She got a nickname? Sweet. It was well-suited in her opinion, as evidenced by her grin when she shook Bradley's hand. "Finally. Someone in this place recognizes how awesome I am."

The question about her power left her unphased as she pulled her hand back. Jubilee let her bag drop to the ground as she put some distance between the two of them and lifted her hands as if she was holding something. The sound of firecrackers erupted in the air as a series of small, brightly colored globules of energy shot out of her hands and exploded in the sky like fireworks.

Bradley was reminded a little of Wade as Jubilee spoke. Maybe it was the grin, he wasn't sure. At least she was easier on the eyes than the swordsman, that much was certain.

Her ability was flashy and nice to look at, but Bradley wondered about the practical implications of such a power on a mission. He supposed it might blind someone for a time or at least provide a distraction. Then again, his own power had its uses, even if it wasn't offensive. He wasn't going to mention any of that. No need to be rude. "Nice light show."
