After the debacle that was the camp invasion, Lorna had been keeping a low profile. She and Olivia had been moved into a room in the other building while the damage to theirs was getting fixed -and Lorna was glad, really. A hole in the wall probably wasn't the best in the world to be living with. She also wasn't sure if she wanted to go back to ( Read more... )

Emma doesn't pull her hand away, just turning her body to face Lorna, hopefully to calm her slightly. "I'm sorry, I didn't realise. I spent most of the time in my diamond form." For her own protection really, and for the need. Without her telepathy, her diamond form gave her the ability to deflect attacks from the invaders. "I couldn't hear you."

It's her biggest peeve about her secondary mutation, that it renders her primary mutation useless while in effect. If she could work around it, things would be so much easier. But perhaps that's why she can't. "Things are calming, this has never happened before, I'm sorry you had to go through it. But now we can prepare and never let it happen again." Emma and Ethan were already discussing how they could make that happen, so that the team never had to deal with such things again.

"Did you manage okay?" Emma already knew that Lorna did, that she'd been part of the foursome -or trio really, that had practically destroyed the second floor of Jefferson. Not that Emma minded greatly. Not if Lorna and indeed Olivia, Haylie and Spencer, were alive because of it. "And you can call me Emma, dear. My friends do."

She managed, she guessed. It wasn't ideal but she managed. Haylie's powers had freaked her out like hell, and the fact that someone nearly died -someone from the team at least, that scared the shit out of her too. She'd never lost team mates before. The Academy of Tomorrow were peaceful, mostly. They'd never had anything so violent happen beyond a street riot or two.

"It was scary. Middle of the night, didn't know what was going on. Going to freaking war in my PJs?" She must've looked so intimidating in her cute little shorts and tank top. "We did okay though."

The fact that Emma considered her a friend was good enough for Lorna right then. She wasn't exactly running wild with friends, not right then. "Thanks, I mean, thanks." Lorna was still struggling with why she was there, but surely Emma knew what she was doing. "You must be so busy, is the Captain okay? Did things go smoothly?"

They did more than okay. No one on the team died. Some of the soldiers from the other base hadn't been that lucky, a few of the nurses and kitchen staff. But the team had held their own, had proved themselves. And Emma was particularly proud of Lorna. She'd done well. Smoothing a hand through Lorna's vibrant hair, Emma smiled softly. "You were great, dearest. I heard all about it."

It had only taken a small poke into Spencer's head and she'd seen the chaos of it, but she knew that Haylie and Lorna were the reason why Spencer and possibly Olivia were still alive.

"It didn't go without hitch, but it went alright. Captain Sykes is just resting up now, he'll be back on his feet soon." Because Emma wasn't foolish enough to think that Ethan wouldn't push himself until he was back up and around.

The praise wasn't really new, Emma had a tendency to keep the praise for when she meant it, but when it was deserved, she wasn't one to skimp on it. Lorna found herself blushing slightly, internally so very pleased at Emma's words. It had been a long time since Emma had actually been present for Academy issues, but when Lorna had first been learning her powers, she vied for Emma's praise.

It seemed that hadn't changed much.

"Good, about the security and the Captain, I mean. That's really good." Lorna didn't take much stock in rumours, but she'd heard a lot of whisperings about what had happened and no one seemed to have the full story or a reason why Captain Sykes had been taken. Maybe they'd find out soon enough.
