No rest for the wicked - OTA

Ethan has been in and out of conciousness for the last hour or so, mind and body drifting as his system slowly but surely clears of the drugs that were pumping through him for so long whilst being held hostage. He has caught snippets of conversation between Doctors and nurses; mentions of Dopaminergics, enzyme inhibitors, Methylphenidate, ( Read more... )

It was enough that she had a camp full of repairs to oversee and now further tactics to see to in regard to Bastion and whatever the hell was going on there. But now Emma had Ethan in his convalescence to deal with, a wounded Pyro and Spitfire, not to mention the issue with Hendley being the reason the two mutants were wounded.

First things came first, however. When Emma was informed by a nurse that Ethan had been awake and seen by Angel, she'd already started pondering that. The next time she got a message from the medical centre was to say that the Captain was far more lucid this time around and actually conscious. Deciding that perhaps an attempt to get something out of him was better than nothing, Emma left her desk and the numerous notations of damages, repairs and bills to settle.

"Feeling better are we?" Standing at the end of the bed, Emma gave a small, genuine smile and crossed her hands behind her back, almost as if she were standing at ease in front of him.

Ethan has every intention of returning to work as soon as he deemed himself well enough. He really didn't care what the Doctors and Nurses all thought, he couldn't leave Emma running the entire camp alone not when it meant that there was double the amount of work for her to do on top of the building repairs, Allerdyce's paperwork and dealing with Hendley. It wasn't even that he didn't trust her to do a good job, it was more the fact he felt guilty ( ... )

Taking the seat, Emma crossed her legs at the ankles rather than over the knee, her posture fairly relaxed all things considered. For the last few days she'd been running herself into the ground. Now that the mission was deemed a success -with minor altercations to deal with sure, Emma could stop for a moment and actually breath. Making sure Ethan was actually in one piece, mentally and physically was something she'd do before taking those few minutes to actually function again.

"No, you don't." And maybe this would end up being a touch of a truce. Was it the ideal way for Ethan to realise that things were slightly different when it came to this team, no. But if it got the message through, if Ethan loosened the reigns a little for both himself and the team, well, Emma counted that a plus. "Unless you wouldn't have done it for me."

Every little thing that flitted in and out of his mind was broadcast right then. Apparently the drugs had knocked his containing of his thoughts for six. "Do you remember much?"

Adjusting the bedding Ethan props himself up a little better, before all of this had happened any sign of weakness of his behalf would have angered and annoyed him. Now though? He just doesn't care. Instead Ethan is just thankful to be alive ( ... )

Haylie had been sleeping off the exhaustion from the mission (and the pain medications) in a bed down the row from where Sykes was and once she'd woken up with a start and nearly blew up the monitors she'd been attached to - decided to hell with it, she wasn't sticking around here. Haylie'd practically lived in the med bay since she'd been here and as much as she hated rooming with Emma? She might actually consider going back to the room ( ... )

Ethan could hear the soft footfall of someone approaching but he hadn't bothered to try and guess who. It still hurt to over think things, mind still addled by the drugs and the residual irritation of his body having to endure pain ( ... )

"Understandable. I think I'm supposed to be here for a few more days but I'm clearly bustin' out now." She said with something resembling a smirk, moving to take a seat by his bed, scooting the chair closer though she wasn't sure why.

When he asked about her injury, she couldn't help the look of surprise on her face. She'd heard Emma's voice earlier and assumed she'd filled him in on all the details, but apparently not. Haylie didn't give it much more thought, though, because it was easy to forget about her when Pyro had been so much more seriously wounded. Shit-- St John. Reaching into the pocket of her open vest, she felt for the lighter and sighed.

"Huh? Oh. I thought you knew-- it's nothin'." She uncharacteristically breaks eye contact - only briefly - and gives Ethan a dismissive shrug. In an attempt to steer the subject away from her injuries, she tosses out the thing she really has on her mind. "D'you know how St John's doin'? Is he okay?"

"Collins," There's a warning tone to his voice. He very much understands Haylie's need to get the hell out of the Med Bay but at the same time he values the medical experience and effort that the staff are putting in here to ensure that everyone is alright. "You are not busting out of here, not till the Doctor gives you the all clear or else I'll haul you back myself ( ... )

A family emergency had called Jen away from the camp. Through the grief and helping her mother plan her father's funeral she hadn't spared a thought to the camp. When she returned, however, she caught up quickly. She was angry at herself for not being there when the attack happened, even angrier that she couldn't have stopped the men who took Ethan and that she couldn't be part of the rescue.

It was stupid to blame herself. She would blame herself just as much if she hadn't been there to help her family, but now that she was back on the camp it seemed to matter just a little bit more. Again, foolish. Instead, she focused on her reason for being in the medical building.

Straightening her shoulders, Jen strode into Ethan's room. "Sir, what do you need me to do while you're recovering?"

Not that he would stay long. She could already tell he wanted to get out.

Prior to the assault on the camp Ethan had been aware of Jen's need to leave because of her father. He had also gotten the news that her father had died too and that Jen was, understandably, staying on to assist her mother. Ethan had made sure to send flowers and a condolence letter to Jen's mother, the least he could do at this difficult time.

Setting his clip chart back down onto the bedside table Ethan took in the way that Jen, even now, was impeccably well presentable and very much to the point. Something he had admired in her as a soldier and been proud to see develop and evolve over time. This was why he wanted her on the team. But right now? With everything that had happened he felt that maybe the military style approach to matters wasn't always best.

Saluting, Ethan eased himself upright and gestured to the chair. "Please, have a seat Barq and stop with the Sir routine. We need to talk, as friends."

She sat, still with perfect posture. She couldn't relax, hadn't relaxed in a long time. She really didn't want to start crying in front of Ethan.

"How are you feeling?" she asked, trying to steer things away from her. Besides he was more seriously injured and had been kidnapped. Clearly, he needed to talk more than her.

"Sore, no longer in pain though. Yet my pride and ego have taken quite a bruising." Ethan studies Jen as she sits, still not relaxing. He sighs softly and reaching out to cover ne of Jen's hands with his own, steadily meeting her gaze.

"I'm sorry, about your father. You could have taken more time if you needed it." He felt guilty that Jen had come back to this and already was jumping around in an effort to assist in clearing up the chaos. With the loss she'd just suffered Ethan wasn't so sure that this environment was entirely helpful.

While Mac hadn't been completely at ease with the team sent to get Ethan, she had thought they'd be capable enough to do it without incident. She'd been wrong, of course, but that was a matter for later.

She'd swung by Ethan's room -almost hoping to see Jesse, but missing him too, and picked up a few nic-nacks while making sure to check the lock on his window again. Heading into the med centre, Mac took the stairs to Ethan's ward rather than the elevator -it was a wait she wasn't looking to stand around and do that.

Shoulder checking the door, Mac wandered past the nurses with a small nod before pulling up beside Ethan's bed and smirking slightly, "You look like shit, bro." Although the relief that he is as least home is something.

Mac visiting Ethan had been expected and he was, to say the least, surprised that she wasn't the first to come and see him. But then again this is Mac and she is known for burying he head in other projects so that she doesn't stress. Not that Ethan is meant to realise this, instead he's meant to just take it that she's not a big softie when it comes to him and her close friends.

Eye rolling and not even bothering to reprimand Mac for her language or distinct lack of proper conduct Ethan reaches out to grab Mac's hand. He's thankful to see that she is okay, unharmed and still in one piece. "Thanks! Here I was thinking I was the belle of the ball."

"You come here to kick my ass then for getting kidnapped or are you going to allow Shar Pei the privilege?"

She probably would've been there earlier, but she'd been paying her respects to the porcelain goddess most of that morning and then she'd stood in her shower for hours to try and feel human again. Next time Ric organised an impromptu poker night, she was beating the Mexican with his shoe ( ... )

Normally Ethan might grumble at the kiss, not exactly appropriate for a soldier to be kissing her Captain, even if it is only platonically. Yet sat here in the Med Bay Ethan really doesn't care, he's savouring the rare and appreciated gestures from everyone that has come to see him so far.

"Thanks, I'll be front and centre Ma'am. Oh! Rubix cube!" Ethan mock salutes Mac, snatching the rubix cube and already starting to solve one side, though he's a little slower that usual. In between the puzzle he keeps glancing at the bag as Mac reels off exactly what she's brought from his room. He wonders if she noticed that Angel had already been in and grabbed his socks, a couple of books and his pillow off of the bed. He doesn't even think about what he's saying as he reaches for the bag and tugs gently.

"Say did you bring my hoody? It's normally on the back of my chair? The Dallas Cowboys one. Angel didn't bring it so I assumed it must have been moved?"

Daken had heard the Captain had been rescued. It was a bit of a disappointment that he hadn't had to spend longer in the company of the lovely insurgents, but Daken figured karma had still given him what he'd justly deserved. The feral had still been a little sore over being held captive ( ... )

Blinking blearily at where the voice came from it took Ethan a few moments to piece together where he was and who was talking. It finally clicked into place but rather than being concerned that he was in a vulnerable position Ethan just eased himself upright and re-arranged the bedding till he could sit comfortably ( ... )

The leg on the floor came up to rest beside the other, hands clasped behind Daken's neck. His confidence in never even thinking of losing his balance was apparent. "Can't a member of the team be concerned for the welfare of his commander?" Ethan would never receive a straight answer. That would be too easy. Had he been more properly awake, the Captain might have been able to try and read some of the tone behind the sarcasm. The truth was Daken simply wanted to see Ethan in a position of weakness, just as Daken had been in when they first met. It was another facet in Daken's ever-present obsession with having power and keeping it.

With a precise and neat flip, he jumped off the chair, landing lightly next to the bed. His nose picked up the female scents lingering around the room, contrasting sharply with the usual clean and antiseptic scents of the med bay. "Smells like you've have quite a few visitors. All women." Daken smirked. "Used the wounded puppy tactic to your advantage yet?"

"Daken, the day you genuinely show concern for me or the welfare of someone else on this team I will willingly kiss you." Perhaps Ethan should have been a little more mindful of what he said to Daken, but as it was the drugs and his drowsiness serve only to hinder his ability to think things through carefully. Later he will reflect on this moment and realise exactly what Daken was up to and curse himself for being so easily fooled.

Ethan doesn't shift back like others might but he does frown a little, curious as to what Daken was trying to get at... oh right. Typical. With a heavy and over the top roll of his eyes. "Yes I have had visitors. Yes they have been all female. No I have not encouraged their attention by playing up on my injuries thank you Daken. Unlike you and the likes of some of the other members of the team I do not need to make a show and dance of flirting with women to assert my authority."
