Daken was beginning to feel uneasy. He wasn’t used to going this long without something to do. He was used to someone always knowing where he was and telling him what to do, even when he wasn’t on a mission. This level of freedom had put the feral mutant off-kilter worse than any torture could have done. It made him feel weak and Daken was a man who despised weakness.
Left with the options of either training or socializing, he’d kept to himself, spending as much time as he could away from the other members of the team. But even that couldn’t hold his attention forever. He felt restless in both body and mind. He needed something to keep him occupied or he was going to start racking up a body count, and he knew the good Captain wouldn’t take too kindly to that.
Figuring it would be the last place anyone would look for him, he was holed up on the fourth floor of the training center in the bookshelves. Unlike some would assume, due to his feral nature, he was quite book-smart and an avid reader. Back pressed against one of shelves and with several books stacked neatly in a pile next to him, he concentrated on the page in front of him. For all the world, he looked completely relaxed. Only the observant would notice the tension in his shoulders and hands and the way he was constantly looking out of the corners of his eye.
