"We can't hold them back! They're breaking through the line! Fuck! Get down! I said get down, motherfucker! Gat gat gat gat!" Jesse muttered in a loud whisper as he used his pen like a M16 as he shot the imaginary enemy to no avail. He started scooting back in his computer chair like he was falling back until his was up against the filing cabinet ( Read more... )

Catching the stress ball in hand, Mac stared at it while the newest recruit for the base spluttered and gave his death rattle. She just stared. This wasn't what she'd expected when Stone had waved the file at her and told her 'Guard's Station, now' and bundled her off to play welcome wagon. Again.

Next time it happened, she was turning off the power for the base.

"Well, I think they'll be amputating my arm, but damn, I made it through, you ass." She was all for enjoying work. And when you were stuck sitting around, well, entertainment came in it's own ways.

Peeking with one eye, he offered a guilty little grin and hurried to get to his feet to salute. "Congratulations, ma'am. I hear they have a lovely assortment of prosthetics offered, Sargent." That last bit got the hint of a smirk before he trained his face to stay serious. He honestly didn't know how long that was going to last.

Mac didn't bother trying for serious, the only things that made her serious were her cars, people in her space and someone shooting at her for real. "Maybe I can get a hook, and hire myself a pirate crew." She wasn't about to bust his balls over anything.

"I was just sent around to make sure you were doing okay. Figure out if you're gonna fly off the handle like some of our last grunts."

When it looks like she's going to play along, Jesse relaxed and picked up his abandoned pen. "Pirate chicks are pretty hot. Monkey or parrot?"

Tossing the pen onto the desk, he pulled the chair back up to the desk and sat down. "Yeah. I'm straight. Kinda bored. Nothing much happening, you know?"

The stress ball bounced off of the centre of his chest and landed on the floor at Ethan's feet with a soft thud. He didn't even bother to acknowledge the fallen 'grenade' or that technically in this make-believe game he'd be dead because he was the Captain and having a special lob a stress ball at you wasn't quite what you expected. Least of all when they were meant to be on duty.

"Dylan, what are you doing?" Raising an eyebrow Ethan reached down to pick up the stress ball, almost immediately starting to squeeze it in a claming manner to ensure he kept his mood in line. He was still recoving from the shit storm Mayspring had unleashed and so his nerves and moods were a little on the stretched side.

As soon as Jesse heard the Captain's voice, he scrambled to his feet to salute. Busted. "Uh, dying, Sir." He replied slightly sarcastic but not intentionally.

He wanted to ask what the Captain was doing there but the answer seemed pretty clear. He was checking up on the new guy and he didn't look particularly happy by what he found. "It's been pretty slow, Sir. I was just... I was just doing what I could to stay awake."

"At ease." Ethan rounded the desk to lean against the surface just infront of the monitors. The Captain had heard good things about Dylan; a goofball, loud and cheeky but dedicated and passionate. He had potential which was why Ethan had agreed to allow the soldier the opportunity on his camp and also why Ethan was making the effort to meet with him for a change.

So far Ethan was only seeing the goofier side. "I see." Tossing the stress ball back at Dylan, the Captain settled with his arms crossed over his chest. "Just try not to be so noisy when there is a chance the General could come by, you hear me?"

"Now, how are you settling in?"

Jess caught the ball easily and set it back on top of the filing cabinet. "Sir, yes, sir." He replied properly scolded.

There was time left for proving himself. He just needed opportunity. Something he wouldn't find watching monitors and answering phones.

"I'm fine. Barracks are barracks. I haven't really met a whole lot of people yet though. None of the muties yet."
