"We can't hold them back! They're breaking through the line! Fuck! Get down! I said get down, motherfucker! Gat gat gat gat!" Jesse muttered in a loud whisper as he used his pen like a M16 as he shot the imaginary enemy to no avail. He started scooting back in his computer chair like he was falling back until his was up against the filing cabinet ( Read more... )

The stress ball bounced off of the centre of his chest and landed on the floor at Ethan's feet with a soft thud. He didn't even bother to acknowledge the fallen 'grenade' or that technically in this make-believe game he'd be dead because he was the Captain and having a special lob a stress ball at you wasn't quite what you expected. Least of all when they were meant to be on duty.

"Dylan, what are you doing?" Raising an eyebrow Ethan reached down to pick up the stress ball, almost immediately starting to squeeze it in a claming manner to ensure he kept his mood in line. He was still recoving from the shit storm Mayspring had unleashed and so his nerves and moods were a little on the stretched side.

As soon as Jesse heard the Captain's voice, he scrambled to his feet to salute. Busted. "Uh, dying, Sir." He replied slightly sarcastic but not intentionally.

He wanted to ask what the Captain was doing there but the answer seemed pretty clear. He was checking up on the new guy and he didn't look particularly happy by what he found. "It's been pretty slow, Sir. I was just... I was just doing what I could to stay awake."

"At ease." Ethan rounded the desk to lean against the surface just infront of the monitors. The Captain had heard good things about Dylan; a goofball, loud and cheeky but dedicated and passionate. He had potential which was why Ethan had agreed to allow the soldier the opportunity on his camp and also why Ethan was making the effort to meet with him for a change.

So far Ethan was only seeing the goofier side. "I see." Tossing the stress ball back at Dylan, the Captain settled with his arms crossed over his chest. "Just try not to be so noisy when there is a chance the General could come by, you hear me?"

"Now, how are you settling in?"

Jess caught the ball easily and set it back on top of the filing cabinet. "Sir, yes, sir." He replied properly scolded.

There was time left for proving himself. He just needed opportunity. Something he wouldn't find watching monitors and answering phones.

"I'm fine. Barracks are barracks. I haven't really met a whole lot of people yet though. None of the muties yet."

"Less of the use of the mutie Dylan." Ethan got the feeling it wasn't being used out of spite, unlike some of the anti-mutant soldiers would do, but Ethan still discouraged the use of such a term. It was one of those words, a bit like some of the terms used for black slaves that seemed to be no longer viewed as derogatory as time passed. Still Ethan didn't want any of the soldiers assigned to the camp to think in terms of 'them and us.'

"The mutants on this team would prefer it if you took the time to learn their names, I'll ensure that a file is sent to you with photos and name allocations like all the members of the military team have been given. Have you encountered mutants before Dylan?"

Ethan hadn't quite had time to catch up on all the finer details regarding Dylan, he'd been too busy with everything else in camp.
