She paced for awhile, then did some mental math, went back to pacing and finally just laid down to try and sleep. She thought she might be losing it when she heard Atticus's voice. It seemed rather soon to be developing hallucinations.
"Well, at least I'll have some company," she said as she sat up.

At least he knew that she was alright. Well, from what he could see. "I'll be fine. At the moment, it's you I'm worried about. What happened? Why are you in here?"

"A soldier attacked Ric and me in the hospital. He was going to shoot Ric if I didn't stop him. I was just trying to stun him, I didn't mean to. I didn't know I could. I didn't know."

Standing up from the cot he moved to stand in front of her, blocking her pace trail. He reached out to take her hands and give them a gentle squeeze. "It's alright Hope, that's understandable. I'm sure Rictor is very appreciative of what you've done for him. And I'm relieved to hear you're alright."

She didn't want to be in this cell for another minute, much less the rest of her life. All this isolation was going to screw with her mind, she would go insane if she didn't get some sort of stimulation.

He knew she had every right to be upset at the moment. But he didn't want her to over worry herself. It wouldn't help the situation. "Listen to me, if they do this investigation correctly, then you were acting in self defense. If he would have killed either you or Ric then he endangered his own life making that decision. You will not be in a cell the rest of your life, nor will you be executed, and I won't leave you alone in this cell until that verdict has been made."

She shook her head. "You shouldn't. If you're caught and don't say I never get caught because they'll figure out I'm talking to someone even if they can't see you."

She hugged him tight because she was really terribly grateful he was here even if it could make things worse.

But a book would be wonderful. She just needed something to keep her mind busy, then she wouldn't cause anymore problems.
