Arrival - Welcome to Fort Wenachee! - OTA

Much like back in Japan there are a line of Humvees awaiting the team at the airport, which they are quickly ushered into and their bags - apart from their carry-ons - are loaded into a separate truck. It's about three in the afternoon as the trucks depart the airport and make the hour journey to their new camp.

The vehicles pull up alongside the ( Read more... )

"You gotta be fucking kiddin' me," Jack said, clearly loud enough for everyone in the immediate vicinity. He hadn't heard this many rules and regulations since his own stint in 'Nam almost fifty years ago. Even back then, he'd chafed under authority. If he hadn't been such a damn good sniper, there was little doubt he would have lasted as long as he did.

Jack was used to being on his own. He'd been alone most of his life, following no code but his own. Even after he had joined up with the squad, he'd still kept up the independence that he demanded. Not even Stryker or Emma could cure him of that. But now he was expected to just give into all this authority? Bullshit. There was going to be blood over this. Hopefully, it wouldn't be literal.

The outcry was of little surprise to Ethan, accustom to hearing far worse during his time in training and with the Army. Striding over to Jack he started to recall the information he had on him, trying to decide which approach would be best to deal with this guy. Erring on the side of caution - Ethan had read that Hendley had a thing against mutants due to his history - he opted to go for the polite but respectful approach.

Standing opposite Jack, Ethan saluted, body ridgid and to attention before he adjusted his posture to one of at ease. "No kidding going on here Hendley."

No point beating about the bush either for that matter. Anyway. "I gather you served in Vietnam, it's a pleasure to meet a fellow soldier."

So this was the Army Captain Emma had mentioned to him on the flight. Jack gave him the once over. Aside from being a mutant, the hunter already knew this guys number. Back in his day, they called such men blue flamers, since they were so eager to follow orders it seemed like they had flames coming out of their-

"Don't you ferget it, soldier. I was taking shrapnel at Phah That before you were a twinkle in your momma's eye." Jack took a step forward, his right good eye trained on Ethan's own. The fact Ethan had used his name, last or first, irked him quite a bit. "Stay outta my way, boy, and we won't have any problems."

Ethan really didn't care what Hendley thought about him, nor did he particularly care for his attitude. Perhaps he'd been too considerate in assuming that Hendley was going to respect the army ways.

With a tight smile Ethan reverted back into his Drill Sergeant tone of voice, though he'd gone through the extensive training and risen through the ranks, he had made a point of experiencing various aspects just so that he could empathise with his fellow soldiers.

"Mutant or not Hendley you are on my base and whether you were taking shrapnel or not bares little or no impact on your time here. Far as I'm concerned you're nothing more than a lowly soldier, brought in to keep these mutants in line and from what I've heard you have failed in your task." Oh yes apparently all those times the mutants had been causing chaos it had been tallying up against Hendley in a neat little file. The General had been wondering what good was a mutant hunter if he couldn't keep the rabble in line ( ... )

Jack had seen and heard a lot worse in his time, some of it just from Victor in the time he had been on the squad. The Captain wanted to play hard ball, then he was going to get it. But Hendley would be damned if he was going to have a mutant in rank above him. Yes, technically Emma already was, but even she wasn't here personally telling him how he had failed at his job.

Mr. Stick-Up-His-Ass was going to learn just how hard keeping this squad in line firsthand. Jack would be there, in the background, laughing as he did so, not lifting a finger to help Ehan. None of these thoughts passed his lips as he replied with merely one word. "Crystal."

Not at all. :D hunteroffreaks October 12 2010, 04:41:02 UTC
Jack turned to glare at Roy when he felt the familiar spike in his emotions. If only looks could kill. As if things weren't bad enough with the Captain chewing him out like some private who was still wet behind the ears, it had to happen right in front of Jack's favorite source of a headache.

"If you want to live, not one word out out you," Jack growled at Roy.

Now he was laughing at him. No way in hell was this happening. But it was. The goddamn mutie was laughing at him, mocking him silently. The mutant hunter had the old familiar red haze come over his vision, the one that always proceeded one of his rages where he was blind to anything but his own hatred.

Before Roy could have a chance to put up his shield, Jack had pulled out a knife and had it pressed up against the mutant's throat. He was deathly serious. "Because this time I'll actually do it."

No. Roy was right. A knife would be too quick, too merciful. Still not entirely himself again, his hand had dropped the knife to the ground and wrapped itself around Roy's throat as soon as he finished speaking. One thumb was over by his carotid artery and the fingers of his other hand were over by his jugular.

Even if he didn't kill him, with the amount of pressure he was putting on them, he'd turn Roy into a human vegetable within minutes without oxygen. Jack indeed was doing his best at the moment to strangle Roy to death. "Laugh at me, will you?" His death grip tightened, Jack's anger completely ruling his mind. "Not so funny now, is it, freak?"

Jack felt Roy's struggles beginning to grow weaker. Just as he thought he finally had him, he felt the all too familiar sensation of having his emotions manipulated. This time, it was like a wave, all of them crashing onto him at once. The shock of it all made his grip loosen.

The pain helped him focus again, the red that colored his vision finally clearing. Doubled over in pain, Jack saw Roy pointing his own gun at him. Despite his hatred, he was glad to see the freak had some balls after all. He glared at him, holding out his hand. "Shoot the damn thing or hand it back over. I'm calm."

Jack pocketed the gun, feeling much more like killing something than he had in weeks. He'd have to see if that little soldier boy was going to be sending the team on missions any time soon. Otherwise, at this rate, he really was going to snap and kill someone.

The hunter looked at his prey with contempt. He had proved he was still a force to be reckoned with and that was all that mattered to him. "Figure it out yourself," was the only answer he gave.
