Lets make some music (Ota, nudge to Esme)

Jan 05, 2010 21:58

Call it a spark of insanity, but Atticus had just about had it. The cold, the isolation, and lack of sleep had finally gotten to him. The star projector Hope had made him helped him sleep on more than one occasion, but for some odd reason his mind couldn't be put at ease enough to let him sleep. He'd read all his books over and over, played all the ( Read more... )

Whatever it was, Esme absolutely adored him for it. She'd been wandering the halls, her guitar strapped to her back and one of her iPods in her hand. Stryker may consider the thing a weapon, but Esme'd be damned if she was only allowed to use it for that. What a jerk ( ... )

Atticus smiled, steadying his playing enough to speak, but not stopping. "Isn't it just marvelous? Sometime I shall have to get ahold of a real one soon. But it's better than nothing."

"It's definitely a change in the typical patterns I see floating around," Esme said as she made her way to a slightly wobbly bar stool. It had no back and was therefor perfect for the winged one to sit on. She let her guitar rest beside her.

"What are you playing?" She asked, just incase this was something new she'd never heard before.

That was right, she could manipulate sound. He smiled. "Just a little something my father used to play for me when I was upset..."

He slowly stopped and inquired. "Have you ever played before?"

Esme stood and headed to the piano, settling down beside him, careful to keep her wings well away from him. Not that she didn't want to bother him with them. She had proximity issues.

"That's cool," Esme said with a grin. All her father ever did when she was upset was quote bible verses at her. More specifically, ones dealing with casting out demons. Asshole.

Flexing her fingers slightly, she began to play a cover version of 'Sing for Absolution'. She let herself play it through before turning to Atticus with a shrug and a smug smirk on her face.

"Just a little."

Atticus chuckled lightly, still impressed with the young woman's abilities. He could always appreciate music and a talent for it.

"Very lovely." He bent over to take a turn at playing something, something it thought she might have enjoyed. "Have you ever heard this before?"

Esme listened to the song, her head tilting slightly. She was enjoying it until the fuck you very much part. Then she was trying to not laugh too much.

"Oh, my God," she finally said when she calmed down enough. "That was awesome." She paused a moment, looking at Atticus. "Can I play another one of mine for you?" she asked, looking quite hopeful.

Atticus laughed. Of course he would enjoy something like that, and he figured she would too. He nodded to her and scooted the piano over so she could get to it better. "Of course."

It never hurt to get permission. Esme positioned herself just right on the piano bench, setting her fingers in the right position before she began to play.

"How have you been, by the way? It's been a while," Esme asked when she was done playing, standing and stretching her wings slightly. That was only comfortable for so long.

He sat back against the couch to listen and enjoy the sound of her piano along with her voice. "Beautiful, Esme. You have a wonderful talent."

When she finished he turned the piano off and put it away, thankful for a break himself. "Oh alright I suppose. I have my days like everyone else. And you?"

"About the same. Some days I love it here. Other days I wish my wings worked so I could leave," she said with a small shrug. She didn't have to mention that most of her days were the latter ones, did she?

No, but things hardly ever needed mentioning to be seen. Especially to him. He gave a slight nod. "I'm afraid I have to agree with you...I believe more than half of us do."

Esme sighed, shaking her head and her wings slightly. Yes, the frustration was that obvious. She didn't bother hiding it from Atticus.

"Y'know, in some very odd and deranged way, sometimes it reminds me of the Academy all over again with the relationship drama and all the fights and...ugh. It's frustrating." Not to mention she actually was starting to miss life at the Hellfire Club, even with Shaw being the creeper that he was.

Atticus watched her, listening intently. "It is very frustrating. And unfortunately, it is only continuing to grow. The only question is..what is the limit before each of us comes to our breaking point?"

He scratched at the side of his face, thinking more. "Or more importantly...what in bloody hell is Stryker really doing with all of these mutants."

"It's all going to boil to an out of control mess and while I at first thought that would be funny," Esme shook her head. As morbid a sense of humor that the girl had, she'd also grown up a little since getting on the team.

"You think maybe that's what he wants? For all the mutants to finally go nuts and start killing each other? I mean, yeah, he has Jack. But what if that's just for the added tension?"

It seemed to make sense to her.

He had the same sort of humor, he did cause trouble on purpose after all, but he shook his head lightly. "I'm not sure, but I don't think so. He enjoys control far too much..."

Atticus sighed when his thoughts ran to Hope. Her job constantly upset her, as well as the certain male doctor. Most of the time when this happened she couldn't even speak to him about it. As if she'd be in trouble. But he could tell from the guilty look in her eyes, something was wrong. "I think it's something much more deeper than that."
