"Fix it!"
That had been the chorus Mark had been hearing for the past two weeks. Admittedly, his teammates had a point. This was his mistake and he needed to set it right. It hadn't been simple. With his own age shifting the range from eight to eighty, he seemed to have formed a mental block around his powers. Little by little, he had been working on wearing it down. The breakthrough came, of all things, when he was aged into a senior citizen. He stopped shifting ages so fast, only changing about once a day, which helped a great deal in trying to gain control oveer his unruly gift.
He had been practicing on a cove of pine trees not too far from camp. He had managed to destroy a great number over the past few days, some turned too far forward, aging them into a premature death, while others were turned back too far into saplings. Martini sighed. Most of the complainers just didn't get it. If he tried to fix them now, that's what they'd end up looking like. Time to buckle down. Focus. He put a hand on a trunk, wondering why his mind was being so difficult, wishing it would just obey for once. Feeling a movement beneath his hand, he was startled to see the tree shrinking downwards, as the time flew back around it. No way. It had been that simple? And it was. The switch in his head was now back to on. First things first. He focused, shifting himself back to his proper age. Then a few simple tests on the trees confirmed it. His powers were back! Now to fix them all, one by one.
Martini headed back to camp, a spring in his step. It was time for a happy dance.
