Tournament: Round One

Nov 08, 2009 11:49

It was Zero's job to clear out the weapons hanger for the tournament. While it seemed like the most improper place for such a thing, where they were, it actually was perfect. The building was larger than any room in the dormitories and it had the most wide open space. All that needed to be done was to move the shelves containing weapons on the ( Read more... )

Logan took his shirt off, throwing it on the ground, and stepped into the ring, stretching his neck and shaking his arms loose a little. Not that he really needed to, but it helped him to get into a fighting frame of mind. If he was going to do this, he was going to do it right.

He had to admit, he liked that he was up against Zero. It was better than being up against someone he actually liked. Zero deserved everything he got, and, after everything Zero had done to Logan's family, it was only right that Logan would be the one giving it to him, humiliating him by beating him. Well, maybe Victor doing it would be even more fitting, but Logan didn't trust Victor to keep his nails in once Zero was down.

"Ready?"

Zero didn't remove any of his clothing, minus what had harnessed his guns. He didn't see the point in doing so. He'd waited for Logan calmly and spoke up when he asked him if he was ready. He smirked, raising a brow.

"Are you?"

When was he ever not.

He rolled his eyes. Zero was so full of himself - and for that alone, Logan would have disliked him. Logan raised his fists, but didn't move.

"Ladies first."

Zero mimicked the eyeroll. Why would he expect anything more mature from Logan? He decided that it would be best to just start the damn thing, seeing how Logan had to get the last word in.

He flexed his fingers before pulling them into a fist and raising them to get into a fighting stance. The ring wasn't that big, and they weren't too far apart. But he approached him slowly at first before making the first move, a fake jab to the face and the a right hook punch to Logan's side.. He went fast, but not as fast as he could. He'd save his energy.

Logan kept his eyes on Zero, unblinking. He wanted Zero to get the first move in, wanted to get some idea of what Zero could do. The way the man carried himself suggested a graceful, easy way of moving that could be deadly in a fight, but Logan had never seen him in action - not properly, without weapons.

The jab was dodged before Logan knew it was fake, making it difficult to side-step the right hook, but he almost managed, Zero's fist barely scraping him. Going with the movement, Logan aimed a right hook of his own at Zero's jaw. No playing; he meant business.

Zero suspected Logan wouldn't hold anything back. So when he moved to hook him, Zero didn't restrain his speed anymore, easily moving out of the way and setting up for his next attack. He was good at shooting guns, sure. But his speed didn't come from them. He was fast on his own.

Stepping back, Zero kicked for the solar plexus.

That was a damn sight quicker than Logan had expected. He was prepared for his hit missing its target, but the kick came as a surprise, catching him right where it was meant to. Logan staggered back, fighting to regain his breath; then, almost as an afterthought, glanced over his shoulder. That was a lot closer to stepping out of bounds than he'd wanted to come.

OK. If that was how Zero wanted to play, that was how he could get it. There'd be no more surprises now that Logan knew what Zero was capable of. Setting his jaw, Logan came at him again, fists raised and ready to strike wherever they could.

He probably enjoyed the expression on Logan's face more than actually being able to kick him. Oh hell with probably. He did.

Smirking, Zero moved backwards as Logan came at him, his own fists raised in defense. He wondered if he'd be able to outsmart him into stepping out of the ring. Not that he was dumb enough to think Logan unformitable, but he knew Victor lost his nerve and everything else. If Logan got there, he probably would be able to.

Logan was a good fighter, and even though his experience was mostly out in the field, rather than in sparring, that didn't mean he couldn't play by these artificial rules. They were just another circumstance to adapt to. Bar some really bad luck, he didn't think he could lose - unless he lost his temper, but he was nowhere near that happening. He was determined to deal with Zero nice and clean. This might be the only chance he ever got of doing it legimately, and safely - both safe for Zero and for Logan, in that he wouldn't risk losing control.

As Zero backed up, Logan followed, all his senses on high alert, practically buzzing, hyper-aware of everything. So Zero was fast. Big deal. Logan wasn't exactly slow himself, plus he was stronger. He could do this. If Zero wanted to back up, he could back the fuck up. Logan pressed on until he was close enough, then aimed a jab at Zero's face, followed immediately by a left hook, swinging with all he got.

There was no doubt in the marksman's mind that Logan was a fierce opponent, that he wouldn't enjoy this as much as he would. But it was clear more had to be done before he could get him steaming.

He ducked from both the jab and the hook, rolling out of the way quickly to stand so now it was Logan closer to the edge of the ring. He didn't hold back in taking a kick to him.

Logan had begun to turn around, following Zero's movements, when Zero kicked out at him. Logan might not be as fast as Zero, but his reflexes were as good as anyone's. He couldn't avoid the kick anymore, so he tried to steady himself, preparing to take the hit - and grabbed hold of Zero's leg, just above the ankle. It was pretty kindergarten, and probably not good form, but fuck, what else was he supposed to do? This was a fight, and he was rolling with the punches - or kicks, as they happened to be. Turning around, he yanked Zero's leg hard, hoping to make him lose his balance.

If he hadn't been expecting the kick to sink in, Zero might have been a little more careful. Probably his first error. He definitely lost his balance, his back making contact with the matte below them.

But he didn't waste any time trying to free himself from the predicament. Zero jerked the leg Logan had a hold of to try and free it, while moving to kick him with the one that was free.

It was almost amusing, watching Zero lying on his back, kicking up like a goddamn kitten or something. (Did that make Logan a ball of wool? Hmm....) Logan had wanted to jump on top of his opponent - if that wouldn't make him give up, nothing would - but the kicking made it difficult.

Logan let go of Zero's leg, narrowly avoiding getting kicked, and backed up a little, allowing Zero to get up. Neither of them would get anywhere if they stayed as they were.

"No lying around."

Zero didn't waste any time getting back onto his feet, and moving at Logan. The comment rolled off his shoulders like water. He didn't have time for petty chat. This was a fight. This was serious.

He exchanged a few more drills with him before faking a punch to the gut and sweeping his leg in attempt to trip Logan. If he got to the ground, Zero wouldn't let him back up.

Trying to avoid the punch that proved to be fake, Logan was mid-motion and mid-swing when Zero tripped him, making it a lot easier than it should have been. Losing his balance, Logan fell back, hitting his shoulder painfully. Trying to ignore the pain, he rolled over on his stomach so he could get up again.

But Zero was already over him the moment he could get there, encircling Logan into a hold. If he held him there long enough, made it painful enough, maybe he'd give up.

He honestly doubted it. But he knew Logan was impatient. It would just be christmas if the stubborn bastard gave up the fight.
