So heres the deal.
In this craptastic recession, you somehow manage to land a halfway decent paying job with a notable company.
You are a female, and this is male dominated work which makes you even more excited for the position, as you will not only be the only female, but also the first female hired in 6 years.
You start work, and quickly realize, you absolutely hate it. With a purple passion. In the 2 and a half weeks you have been there, you have already been in tears at least 4 times. The work is seemingly impossible for you to do ( its physically demanding ) as you are expected to keep pace with the males. At least 4 times a week you get called to the office by the bosses who lecture you about how much faster you need to be moving ( but you ARE trying, you are giving it all youve got ), the last one resulting in a write up.
When you interviewed for the position, you disclosed that you were a full time student, and were looking for hours that would leave enough time for you to complete your studies efficiently. You are reassured that the hours would not conflict with your school, and that your hours would be Sunday-Thursday 7PM-330AM. However, since youve been working, your hours have been 7PM to around 6AM, Sunday-Friday. There has not been a single day you have actually gotten off at 330. You are behind on your schoolwork, and literally exhauseted.
To add insult to injury whilst you are regularly being chewed out about your slower as compared to the men, ( its warehouse work, the males pull at or above 166 cases an hour, you pull right around 125-135 usually), you notice that while you bust your ass, the men do a lot of standing around talking. Not neccesairly during rush, but afterwards when the cleaning is the only thing that needs to be done in order for you to go home. You are often stuck at work anywhere from 1 to 2 and a half hours longer, because your male colleagues want to "milk the clock" and take their sweet time cleaning, rather than just get it done so everyone can go home. And since you can't leave until they do, youre stuck. The management is aware of, and does nothing about this. Yet always find time to chew you out. And in this fact, you have already subtly had your job threatened if you do not improve. So you are not convinced that you may not get fired in awhile anyway.
You are absolutely miserable. You are beyond tempted to just walk out and never look back.
But in this time of job crisis, you have no idea when you will be able to find another job, and even if you do, risk it not paying what you are currently making in hell.
So what do you do? Do you quit and take the risk of being unemployed for however many more months?
Do you suck up the tears and stick it out for as long as you can, sacrificing your schoolwork, your relationship with your fiancee, your dog...hell everything...
Sigh.
