Haha, not creepy at all - just coincidence! Honestly, the Communication thing started off as my original major, and then I realized later on that I just loved the History department so much more. However, since I didn't really think that I'd be the sort to pursue a career in the history field, it made sense for me to continue Communication. Plus, I have had a few editorial and marketing internships, so I figured that it couldn't hurt me to just do both departments - I thought I would just seem all the more practical.

Definitely try to get as much internship experience as possible. You never know when something can lead to a job, especially if the company you're working at really likes you a lot. If anything, that's just going to be more contacts and more people to look out for you in the future, no matter what you decide to do. Two big internships that I loved and really affected me quite a lot were in the marketing and communications department at my state's Economic Development division. That was AWESOME. Unfortunately, because it is a government organization, they are in a hiring freeze until the economy picks up again :/

Another job I had through college was as the Student Editor of my alumni magazine. That was another great opportunity, but unfortunately it can't really lead to anything since I graduated and moved away. However, my boss there has been incredibly helpful, and he is who I go to now for all sorts of job search advice and guidance. Having a contact like that has been priceless.

Internships don't always lead to jobs, but sometimes they do. You never know, and the more worthwhile internships you have over the years, I'd say the better you'll be when you do have to start searching for a job. As for what my communications focus will be, I have no idea. Writing, media, editing, layout design...I'd be happy to do any and all if I am able to secure a job! :) However, I have been leaning towards the possibility of actually using my history degree, since it really is my first passion and something I would love to integrate into my work life. Therefore, I've been trying to explore museum/preservation work as well, so if I could work in a marketing division of one of these somewhere, I would be in hog heaven!
