Okay, question. I live in a small town and I can't walk more than maybe two and a half miles in one direction, because the town's bound by highways which are difficult to cross. I don't have a car or a license and I don't know how to drive, and I don't have anyone who's willing to take me anywhere. (So lonely. *tear*) There's also no public transportation whatsoever. There aren't any jobs here at all so I've been applying for ones in nearby cities. Only, if I ever manage to land a job, as if by some miracle, how the hell am I going to get there?

Also, I am Muslim, and depending on my hours it might be necessary for me to take a break for prayer (each of the five obligatory prayers has a specific time of day you need to pray it in, which only lasts a few hours). When would be a good time to bring that up? Or is it risky to let American employers know I'm Muslim? My boyfriend, for instance, says that depending on the job it could be risky to let anyone know I'm gay, and I think on the North American Popular Hatred Scale practicing Muslims are worth at least five homosexuals. (I know they're not allowed to fire you outright for being Muslim or gay, but apparently if they find out and they don't like it, they'll start looking for any excuse to get rid of you, so he thinks it's not a good idea in spite of the laws.)

And if there are any brothers and sisters who perform salat during work hours, where do you pray? I have a portable prayer mat I can take with me to work. If there's a back room with enough space I can use that, inshallah, but if there isn't, should I go out back and pray in the parking lot maybe?

unfair treatment, question
