Finally employed!

I know some people don't care for these posts saying that someone is finally employed again, but I felt like this was somewhat relevant to those who are still looking for employment.

I had been unemployed since mid-June with absolutely no call backs for interviews. No interest in my applications and resumes whatsoever. I was beginning to lose hope! It ended up that I got dumped from my five year relationship and ended up having to move back to my mother's house, where the job market happens to be somewhat better.

The position I was hired for is with a hospital, in medical records and there were 300 applications for this position alone. With that kind of feedback for one part-time job, there is no way everyone will get their applications see. It literally came down to me having to know someone within the hospital (my mom works there as well) and have them put in a 'good word' for me. My mother's supervisor literally called the hiring manager and told them I was a hard worker and that she recommended me to be interviewed. Thankfully, they listened and I was scheduled for an interview and got the job.

Prior to this, I had applied for six different positions within the hospital, all along the same lines of work with no feedback. I then asked my mother's supervisor to look at my resume and application objectively as if she were going to hire me and tell me what I could do to improve my odds. She did. She helped me re-word some things so that it sounded better. She then called to recommend me for an interview and that combined with the re-worked application I was able to be seen by the hiring manager.

So, if you know someone that can look over your applications or resumes objectively and offer some constructive criticism, I would definitely suggest it. And if you know someone that can recommend you be interviewed at least, go for it. Suck it up and ask. Because right now, there are so many people apply for jobs that there is no way employers can look at every single application right now.

hope, resume, advice
