The Numbers Game

(Inspired by opalnipotent.)

So far this year I've applied for 65 jobs and 3 volunteer organizations (4 if you count my offer to work free for a local co-op).  I apply to an average of 7 jobs a month (ranging from 3 to 13).  I've had 8 interviews (6 in or before March; 0 from an Internet job search); that's about 12% of my applications that result in face-time.

I couldn't lie about my education either. It's not me being on my high horse, but the fact that my work experience comes from my education thanks to be employed at my college as a student tutor. There's not much getting around that.

Would it be possible for you to move to another town? I can't complain about the job market where I live -- it's all on me, one way or another -- but it looks like you can.

I also note that you're a professional photographer in FL. My foster brother is a professional photographer in GA! Maybe he could give you some tips?

Nursing's always a stable field. But don't give up on photography, even if you're only doing it part-time at first. Apparently, it is a viable career in the long run.

What's your boyfriend contributing to your expenses? If the answer is "zilch", then is there anything keeping you from maintaining a long-distance relationship? He finishes his education, you find a place somewhere where they'll hire you? (And maybe him too, when he graduates, depending on what he's majoring in.)

Yes, said foster brother had to expand into family, weddings, kiddie photography too. It's still providing most of his bread-and-butter, though he's accumulated some damn good gigs over the years. It's those gigs he lives for...but he does the events, and he does the commercial stuff, because *that's what keeps him in the game*.

Here's his website: http://www.sponbergphotography.com/ Talk to him. If nothing else, hey, at least you're networking!

I'm with you. Even though it probably works against me, I can't leave my degrees of my resume. I worked hard for them.
