I just spent a few hours going through photographs. Stack upon stack- of vacations, friends, teachers, pets, landscapes, projects, family, events... I sorted through all of them and managed to organize them into categories. It seems like I can retrace my steps over the last few days and remember each one being defined by photographs, in one way or another.
Friday: Erin brought doubles for me. Pictures of her and me along with Tim, Lindsay, Guillermo and Erick at the club a few weeks ago. Smiling with "The Godfather" poster on the wall behind us. Dancing the three stooges line dance in the middle of the floor, frozen in mid-clap. I picked out four or five for myself. Then she and I spent a girl's day in the French Quarter for her birthday. Trying on antique diamond rings- OUR rings- hers was 3 carats, square cut and $35,000. Mine was 2.5 carats, circle cut and $16,500. We gasped and reeled and fell in lust. Click. Posing underneath a willow tree on a little alley near St. Louis Cathedral. Click. Sitting in the posh Loa bar, with straw hats poised and martinis in hand. Click.
Saturday: Matthew and I went to a baseball game in the evening. We slipped happily into seats that were right next to the field. The Zephyrs were up to bat and the bases were loaded. Click. The catcher stood a few feet away from us, warming up. Click. I turned the camera around to take a shot of both of us as Matthew twisted in his seat to squeeze in. We cracked up laughing when my bare legs got stuck to the seat. Click. It was sticky and hot and the dusk was like a sigh of relief. Our team won 6-1 and the crowd cheered like it was the last game of the season.
Today: I brought the last of the competition pictures to the studio, and saw a new one on the bulletin board of Guillermo and I. It was taken after our last tango at the Guest Party, him in his latin attire, and me in a borrowed black swing dress, with a dangerous cut and pink piping at the skirt. I'm holding the flowers that Sherry and Lindsay threw into the air a few seconds before, and he and I have that just-finished-performing look in our eyes. You can almost hear us being out of breath. We look so happy, although it's kind of a bittersweet picture. Click.
I also picked up my portrait package from Jimmy while I was out. Those turned out well. I actually like the way I look in them, like it's really me and not some alternate version of me. Now I just have to pass them out to everyone that asked for one!
