Am borrowing my parents' car for a week and therefore can, for the first time since living here, go to the big downtown library and get as much as I want without having to worry about getting it back to my apartment.

I have just signed myself up for Goodreads because my Amazon wishlist has become too inundated with "books that look interesting and I want to check out of the library" to be useful as a "books that I really want to own" list that I can send out when the family demand for Christmas wishlists comes around. One of the really nice things about teaching eighth-graders was that the last few weeks before school ended were pretty quiet and stress free, because they all stopped coming after eighth-grade graduation. When I said yesterday that I didn't care how slow my internet was as long as I had it, I was being overly optimistic. It's taking 15 minutes on average to load a single page; fifteen minutes of intermittent refreshing because the attempts keep on timing out.
