battle of the subplots

I have been thwarted on the story I am currently writing, as I realized that my plans to give Brendon the flu directly conflict with the choral subplot. He cannot be a heroic tenor while battling the flu! My two climaxes* are totally in conflict with each other. Writing, so hard. D:

*this is an overstatement. They aren't really climaxes, seeing as I still haven't figured out what the plot of the story is.

Writing about choirs always reminds me that someday I really want to write a boychoir au, because how adorable would that be? Although, whenever I start thinking about that, I get sidetracked into thinking of a Rumer Godden-type ballet school au. Or even better, Thursday's Children! Brendon would be Doone, of course, and Ryan would be a mixture of Crystal and Rachel, and Jon could be Charles. And then I crack up before I can figure out who Spencer would be, because I could totally buy Brendon and Ryan, but I can't imagine ballet!Jon.

...possibly no one else has ever even read that book. Ballet school stories were my favorite growing up - all the Noel Streatfield books, of course, but Rumer Godden was far and away my favorite. And someone requested it for Yuletide! This excites me!

Speaking of Yuletide, I am unspeakably squeeful, but I can't decide what to sign up for, either requesting or offering. There are so many wonderful options! Right now, I'm mostly split between adventure-type fandoms and childhood favorites, but since I haven't successfully finished a fic in ages, I'm a bit wary of offering anything too daunting. On the other hand, I'm really looking forward to not having to write the story while taking finals, as per last year.

Is anyone else doing Yuletide? I need people to commiserate with!

writing, yuletide, crack au
