Once upon a time I used to read a blog called 'Belle du Jour', which claimed to be the real life diary of a London call girl. Whether it was real or not, Belle was engaging and I read her blog when it was a mere blip on the radar.
Then I grew bored and removed it from my bookmarks.
Next thing I know, I'm seeing her published memoirs in book stores. I read the second book on the way out to the US this summer.
Now, purely by chance, I stumbled across the TV adaptation starring Billie Piper.
Oh lord.
I'm torn on this one. It's hot seeing Billie doing sex scenes but it's awful that here's yet another supposedly true story (I really doubt any of it is true; it's far too seamless, IMO, to be real) telling us all how fucking wonderful being a prostitute is, and how much all prostitutes love their jobs! Yes, that reflects the reality in Happy La-La Land.
