Help A Fan Out?

Mar 17, 2012 21:27

So . . . Gillian Anderson has had relationships with women.

As if there was ever any doubt.

But someone help me out. I know there are several X-Files fans that I'm friends with on here. Can someone tell me where Scully went to medical school? (She graduated with her BS from the University of Maryland and I read on Wikipedia that she went to med school at Stanford, but that rings no bells for me. I kind of thought she went on the east coast. I almost wanted to say Johns Hopkins, but that doesn't sound right, either.) Help a sister out!

I'm just getting over getting drunk so I'm going to bullet some random points, taking a page from rachg82.

- Saint Patrick's Day was fun this year. Went to a parade up town and drank beer. Or five. Watched a bit of England/Ireland rugby and generally basked in the sun because it's freakishly warm down here in North Carolina. It was a good day.

- I think I've got a best friend down here. It's cool having one of those again.

- Must. Not. Fall. For. Inappropriate. People.

- Flogging Molly is an awesome band.

- Two people yelled "Go Green!" at me today, in response to my festive Spartan shirt. One older man grabbed my arm and asked me if it was true if there was a school on the bank of the Red Cedar that was known to all. Yes, sir. It is true.

- My bracket is amazingly fucked up. Can't say I hate that Duke was knocked out in the first round and I'm glad that Missouri, who so many pundits had knocking MSU out, also lost in their first round but . . . My bracket is now sad and pathetic.

- Two weeks until spring break.

- A student died last week. She was hit by a car after school, crossing a busy intersection. She wasn't my student, but she was a senior and one of the few at this school with potential. Or at least taking advantage of her potential. It's truly tragic. She was actually in my room on Monday because her teacher was out and her students were dispersed. I think it just goes to show that you never know what can happen to you, you know? We're all best off stopping our bitching and just getting on with life in the best way possible.

- I also got into an accident on Monday. Long story, but I got rear ended on the high way. My car is way better than the car that hit me but it's still a bummer. I have to take it to a shop to get repaired and I have to deal with the annoyance of getting a rental or bumming a ride from a friend. I'm also getting a lot of letters from various law offices and chiropractors. It's creepy. As it is, annoyances be damned. I wasn't hurt and neither was the guy who hit me.

- It's lightning out but it's not raining. I swear it never rains here when I'm awake.

- My students now mostly understand that "dyke" is derogatory and that is not synonymous with "lesbian" or, for that matter, "tomboy". I'm calling that progress.

- Grey's Anatomy is on a three week hiatus. After airing one episode after a two week hiatus. Grr. But the next episode is going to have ARIZONA BACKSTORY. Be still my heart! And there will be interaction with Callie! OMG!

- And speaking of Grey's . . . They're having a charity benefit tomorrow with singing and a Q&A panel. I hope all the great lady loving gal fans of our favorite couple who attend capture video or take extensive notes. SaRa and J-Cap are so thoughtful and articulate when it comes to their characters that I hope they asked lots and lots of questions. And sing lots and lots of songs.

- That was a really bright bolt of lightning just now.

- There's no kickaround for Gaelic football tomorrow because everyone is expecting to be hungover. Bummer. I didn't go last week because I had major allergy issues but I bought some Benadryl so I'm feeling kind of better about exercising outside now.

- And speaking of exercise . . . I ran two miles last Saturday. All in one go. I was just like, "I'm going to run until I can't." And I did. It was just over two miles and there were some wicked hills and I had to stop for traffic lights which, of course, made it hard to get momentum back. But I did it.

- I also went bike riding on . . . The day after I was in the accident. That was about two hours. One thing I do like about North Carolina is that it's warm enough in March to do shit outdoors. The allergies are going to be brutal but . . . I mean, it's March and in the 80s. I know it's been warm everywhere but . . . Still.

- Did I mention there's only two weeks until spring break?

- Have I ever mentioned my Tumblr obsession here? I'M SO IN LOVE WITH TUMBLR, OMG. I could easily spend my day reblogging pretty pictures of Jessica Capshaw, Sara Ramirez, and Hope Solo. It's such a good thing that I have a job.

- I'm doing a poetry exchange with my friend who is in the Peace Corps down in Lesotho. I got her students' poetry and letters last week and just sent mine off. It's so exciting! I should prepare a quick presentation on Lesotho for my students so they know what the hell that is before they read the letters and poems (some of which are silly and some of which are like, "Holy shit, your parents are dead and you live in a country with the third highest rate of HIV and AIDS in the world"). I really hope it opens up some of the kids' eyes to what it's like for kids in different parts of the world.

- I haven't watched the KONY video everyone is talking about (tangentially related to the above). Child soldiers . . . That does blow but . . . What will it take to focus America's attention on the problems we have here? Because . . . Do we or do we not have our own problem with "child soldiers"? A little something I like to call "gangs" and "gang violence". Several of my students have been in gangs. Hell, several of them are still in gangs. I've had students who have been part of gangbangs. I've had students get shot because of gang retaliation. I'm sure I've had students inflict gun violence as part of gang rituals. Why aren't we more concerned about this? There was a fucking shooting at my school last fall. Kids are making drug deals in the fucking halls. What's happening elsewhere in the world is totally deplorable but . . . So is what we are allowing to happen here. I'd like to see that documentary sweep Twitter and Facebook.

- It's finally raining!

- I hate that I haven't written a Xena review since, like, October. What a bad fan I am. I'll get back to it. Maybe during spring break.

- I didn't intent to write this much.

- Though, honestly, I don't think my posts get read much. I know I'm not completely talking to the wind but . . . Hell, I guess I kind of view this blog as my internal monologue in written form.

- Flogging Molly is awesome live.

- Okay, I'm done now.

- Except . . . Gillian Anderson? DUH. So much duh all over the place.

lists ftw!, grey's anatomy, xena!, reflections 'n such, girlslash goggles
