Back from the Banx
So I'm back from my mini vacation. Went to the Outer Banx in North Carolina for 4 days. It was a fun time. Lots of things were going on throughout the trip. Here's a summary of my trip.
Thursday (8/16)
~ Arrived at Tom and Tara's house early in the a.m. (1:30ish)
~ Helped Tom pack things into his truck
~ Tom showed me how to do an oil change at 3 a.m.
~ Rode a bicycle for the first time in about 10 years
~ Departed Tom and Tara's house at 5:30 a.m. and rode w/Danny (Tom's cousin)
~ Had my very first Sonic meal in Maryland (good burgers and o-rings)
~ Met up with Mike and Emily and had them follow us to the campsite on the Banx
~ Set up our campsite with our tents, lawn chairs, and other equipment
~ Went into the pool for a little bit
~ Had barbecued hot dogs for dinner at the campsite
~ Started turning in after 10 p.m.; didn't fall asleep till very late in the morning
Friday (8/17)
~ Was the last one to wake up; missed breakfast :-(
~ Drove to the Bodie Island Lighthouse; couldn't go up inside the lighthouse but went inside the museum
~ Drove into Kitty Hawk and visited a few stores; purchased crappy sandals, a Quiksilver t-shirt, and an OBX keychain/bottle opener
~ Saw how fudge was made :-P
~ Drove to K-Mart where we hijacked some palletes from the back for our evening bonfire
~ Arrived back to the campsite and went fishing w/Mike at the dock
~ Learned how to fish and actually CAUGHT about 3-4 fish :-D
~ Had burgers and stroganaf for dinner at teh campsite
~ Watched Mike fly his spaztic kite (thing was whipping back and forth like crazy)
~ Made a fort out of our palletes to protect our gear and equipment from any impending rain
~ Went to the clubhouse and played some pool (beat Emily twice and Mike once) :-)
~ Watched Mike make fire out of nothing but sticks
~ Saw a frog hop onto our campsite and hung out with us (I offered it a bottle cap of beer but it didn't want it) :-P
~ The arrival of Laura (Tara's sister) and Jeff around midnight
~ The SHOCK of Tara upon seeing Jeff and Laura just chilling at our campsite as Tara returned from the restroom
~ Experienced a massive rain shower and thunderstorms while resting in my tent (finally went to bed afterwards)
Saturday (8/18)
~ Visited the Wright Brothers Memorial in Kitty Hawk; got to see monuments and pictures and stuff
~ Got blisters on both feet from my stupid friggin' sandals
~ Went to Slammin' Sammy's for dinner in Kitty Hawk (got mozzas and a caesar salad with chicken)
~ Went to Jockey's Ridge (sand dunes) after supper to watch teh sun set (absolutely gorgeous skies)
~ Went to a Brew Thru to pick up beers
~ Packed the palletes into Tom's truck for our bonfire (and lots of beers as well) :-P
~ Drove South to the beach
~ Watched the boys dig a big hole in teh sand for our bonfire (Tom began putting firewood in the hole before setting the wood on fire)
~ Drank lots of beers and took some tipsy pictures :-)
~ TOM PROPOSES TO TARA :-D (in private)
~ Both Tom's and Tara's parents walk onto the beach after teh proposal; Tara is in complete shock of seeing both sets of parents
~ Tom tells everybody of his plans to propose to Tara
~ We drive to a beach house in Waves that Tom's parents were renting for the week (I believe)
~ Tom dives into the pool with clothes on...is quite excited and possibly a little tipsy at the same time
Sunday (8/19)
~ Didn't eat breakfast; couldn't find a place that would serve breakfast (was soooooo hungry) :-(
~ Spent the day at the beach house where Tom's family is staying
~ Stomach was hurting (was a little hung over from the previous night) :-(
~ Went into the pool for a little bit
~ Had chicken salad sandwich and chips for lunch
~ Played pool (billiards) alllll day inside w/Jeff, Mike, and Laura (remained undefeated for a short while)
~ Watched Jeff consume Ass cheese balls all day (the Utz brand)
~ Stocked both fridges with brews and girlie drinks (as well as soda)
~ Had lasagna and spanish rice for dinner (as well as fruit and brownies for dessert)
~ Walked to teh beach from a shortcut path on our street
~ Spent several hours in the morning talking w/Jeff by the pool about relationships (the man gives some awesome advice about dating)
Monday (8/20)
~ Took group photo by the pool
~ Went jet skiing for the very first time (didn't die or even fall off the waverunner)
~ Actually rode the jet ski pretty fast at the end of the hour
~ Had an extremely long lunch at Lisa's pizzeria
~ Napped for an hour at the beach house
~ Said goodbye to Tom's parents as we all drove off to Kill Devil Hills
~ Played mini golf at Mutiny Bay (pirate themed golf place)
~ Got TWO hole-in-ones!!!!! (but only finished 3rd overall)
~ Surprisingly didn't get kicked out of the golf place due to our antics and immature behavior :-P
~ Had dinner at Sonic (which I ended up throwing up later in the night)
~ Left North Carolina with Danny around 10:30 p.m. (said goodbye to everyone beforehand)
~ Stayed awake during the drive back through Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware where it rained buckets in all 3 states (Jersey too)
~ Pulled over to a rest area on the Chesapeke Bay Bridge Tunnel to puke up my dinner (made me feel better)
~ Arrived at Tom and Tara's house at 6:30 a.m. so Danny and I could crash on the couches before driving back home
So yeah, the trip overall was great and I had a lot of fun. I learned how to fish and jet ski for the very first time, and those were both fun activities (for the most part...jet skiing was rough the first 40-45 minutes). The weather was brutal...it was hot and muggy all weekend. It was also really windy for most of the weekend, so that made things interesting in terms of cooking and sleeping. Made a couple new friends (Jeff and Laura) and it was just nice to get away for a few days. It was so cool how Tom and Tara got engaged. They're really great together and I wish them nothing but happiness until their wedding.
Can't wait till next year's OBX trip!
