Book #4: Moonshine, by Rob Thurman. 338 pages. Recommended by the amazing Zbyszko. :)
I had to grin when I noticed that this second in her series was exactly one page shorter than the first had been. Weird. :)
I enjoyed this book as well, again mostly because I love stories where one sibling fights to save his/her sibling. And this series definitely has that.
It's quick and fun, and I actually laughed out loud twice. That rarely happens for me. :)
That said, this one is a little more serious than the first one was. And that works.
I think that the only problem I have with this series (although it's not even really a "problem"...it's more of a wish for something more...) is that we don't really get to see what's going on in anyone else's heads. The story is told from the point of view of the younger brother, Cal, and he's really the only one we get to know.
I don't know if the author did it on purpose, making the character that much more self-involved, so that we really only know what he knows, or if it was unintentional. Either way, I wish that we had some more insight into the other characters.
I'd especially like a story told from the older brother's POV. Nikko is so fiercely devoted to his little brother; he'd do absolutely anything to take care of him. He's actually the character that I relate to more than to Cal, so I'd like to see more of him. But we get to see so LITTLE of what's going on with him, what's going on in his head. We really ONLY see what's going on with Cal, and the others are merely in the periphery.
It's not exactly a problem. It's just kinda frustrating. I'd like to see more of the other characters.
Anyway.
I definitely enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to the third and fourth novels. Although I think that I might read Anna Quindlen's "Blessing" next.
I'm not sure...
I love summer! :)
Please keep the recommendations coming.
Thanks!
