Book #3: Nightlife, by Rob Thurman. 339 pages. Recommended by the amazing Zbyszko. :)
It's the start of a series about two brothers who fight supernatural bad guys. ... Hmmm...sound anything at all like something else I'm obsessed with? :)
So, of course, I gave it a try.
And I liked it.
I liked the big brother being fiercely, calmly, determinedly dedicated to protecting his little brother, no matter what. The story's told in the little brother's voice (Cal), and he's very snarky. Actually, he's a little TOO snarky for me, but it's still got its funny moments.
The reveal of what the supernatural bad guys wanted Cal for was a little too...weak for me, but it's gotta be pretty hard to put together a "realistic" reason, when it's all supernatural anyway. :) And it's not like it made it less enjoyable for me.
It was definitely fun, and I went out and bought the next three. I'm already 111 pages into the second one.
Oh, and the author's pretty funny, too. Zbyzsko linked me to her LJ, and I'll put it here, too, in case anyone's interested. Her official site is www.robthurman.net , and her LJ is
