I guess it's true, people all over at some time or another think that military might is the only way to go.

One day it will just be too much.

A man who lives as long as I have, in the military as long as I have, inevitably suffers the consequences of a war let go too long.

I hope that Discedo will never become a nation of war as my own country was. But I do hope that the people with the strength to protect those who cannot protect themselves will unite to prevent any more needless suffering and death than I have already seen here.

Your words are wise, for someone so young. What is your name, and how did you come to these convictions?

A military state would simply make the situation more unstable. It causes restlessness even in those who wish for peace.

I'm not as young as I seem, though I am no elder wise man. My name is Ichinomiya Kantarou, in my world we have just seen end a great war that involved nearly the entire world for four years. I can't say that my country was particularly stable before that either. But then, I'm a writer and a spiritualist, I'm always for the less violent approach.

It's good to meet you, Ichinomia Kantarou.

What would you propose be done about those who cause crime in the city?

It depends, 'crime' can be many things. I suppose the old 'Eye for an eye' could be used. But punishment and confinement can only go so far, change is needed for anything reoccurring. Though, in the end those who sin will realize the mistake, always when it's too late. I can't say I know what to do, I'm a specialist of youkai and spirits. When youkai do wrong, I send them back to where they belong, or I try to reason with them.

Here I am saying useless things like a selfish person.

Not at all. If Discedo is going to keep from becoming a dictatorship, every voice must be treated as important.

You are right. Those who sin realize, too late, that they have made mistakes. But too many people have died for their mistakes in the meantime for the city to keep waiting for them to realize it for themselves.

This is why I believe that this is what must be done. There are people in this city who can protect those who cannot. They will be stronger - more effective - together, than scattered and divided.

If anything, the team that broke Walter out of his prison proved that for us.

What impression have the spirits of the city given you so far?

They do seem to be a difficult problem to address. Leaving them to god doesn't seem to be a good option either.

[He hasn't figured out how to use the communicators very well yet, so he has no idea how to filter things.]

I've only spoken with Kirie, I think she's in a lot of pain. Sadly I can't tell much more at this time, though in general I think a lot of this city needs to be purified.

Heh. It would be nice if every problem could work itself out, but sometimes the cost of waiting is simply too much.

How would you purify a city?

True, waiting is usually not the best answer.

I would start with the really bad areas, the most negative and do purification rituals there, or, try and clear out the major causes of the negative energy. Usually it's only a few things that cause tainting, if you can figure out the source you can address it. It's really hard, and you usually need a lot of people and a lot of time. I can't say I've ever tried it before, or know anyone who has.

If you know how to conduct such rituals, I will volunteer my efforts to help you conduct them. The spiritual matters of the city cause me concern as well.

I once visited the Spirit World that lies parallel to my own world. I learned to respect the balance between the spiritual and the physical world while I was there, but though I have gone spirit-walking in this city, I haven't learned anything more about the city itself or what sort of balance those who came before us disrupted.

I...

Sadly at this point in time I fear I can't do much. Since I arrived it has been like a thick gauze has been wrapped around my entire body. I have spoken with someone who should be able to help though, and I think I could assist him and instruct anyone else.

Looking at this place does concern me, I wonder how the spirits of this land fair, I wish I could talk to them....

I have tried to speak with some of the spirits, but none of them have ever responded to my presence, even when I approached them in the form of a spirit. It was very strange.

I wish you luck in regaining your abilities. Who will be performing the operation?

Operation? This is the second time I've heard references to medical needs....

I have to confess, I really don't understand what this 'chip' thing is.

Heh. You'll find me with little more knowledge about it. Such technologies are beyond my time. We're fortunate to have people from more creative times to help us out.

I can't say I care much for doctors.... Here I thought I was from an age of modern devises.

I wonder what this operation will involve.

We're fortunate enough to have some very fine doctors here. Simon Tam is a physician of unparalelled skill. Who has offered to help you get rid of yours?

The operation itself is not terrible, but in the days and weeks afterwards, your powers will be difficult to control. If your abilities are dangerous, it would be best if you found a place away from people to wait out the week while regaining control.
