Nani, your celebration was a wonderful gathering, and Sorata, your cooking is excellent as always. Thank you all for your hard work ( Read more... )

Well, I'm always happy to hear more! I don't have a family, right? So this stuff is pretty cool to me.

A similar event took place when I met my nephew Zuko for the first time. Of course, my eyebrows were thicker than Ozai's at the time, enough to withstand a baby's sneeze. And there was no yelling.

That was a very interesting story! What exactly happened to your brother's eyebrows?

My son sneezed fire and burned them almost completely off. Such are the hazards of raising firebending children.

Really? That's neat! What's firebending all about, if you don't mind me asking?

Of course not! Firebending is the primary art form of my country. It is a method of channeling energy from the body through breath and movement into physical manifestation as fire. Firebending is as beautiful as it is deadly, as much an act of creation as of destruction, and it is an honor to bear the gift of fire in one's heart. It is a martial art unique to our culture.

Today was the summer Solstice, the most important day in my country, because it marks the day that the sun is longest in the sky and our bending is at its most powerful. I put on a display to welcome the sun this morning, as is tradition, but perhaps I will schedule another demonstration later in the year. Perhaps in the winter.

It is, indeed, a good day to remember family and loved ones, isn't it?

That was a nice story.

I don't usually get the chance to hear about your family like this, Iroh-sensei.
