Summary: Anew and Lyle talk.
Lyle sighed as his hut came into view. He wasn't looking forward to explaining what had happened, or why he had been involved--or Neil, for that matter. His arm was stiff after the healing, although the rest of him was more or less in one piece.
Gingerly he approached and opened the door, slipping inside quietly. He winced gently as he jarred his freshly healed arm.
Anew was in the living room again after having talked to Pluto. She shook her head a bit, knowing already that he had been involved. She noticed when he winced and sighed. "Are you at least alright?" she asked.
Lyle turned slowly and attempted a smile. "I'm perfectly fine..." Well, he was, sort of. "How are you?" He glanced around the room, noting that it was oddly quiet.
Anew sighed. "I'm glad you're alright," she said. "And I already know what happened. Your brother has been here already."
Lyle grimaced. "Oh." That explained the silence. "Are you mad at me for getting involved?" He sat down gingerly on a different couch, waiting for her reaction.
"I'm annoyed that you did something so careless. That was a really stupid idea... I'm just glad you're alright."
Lyle ducked his head. "It wasn't like we wanted the cannon to explode, it just happened..." he sighed. He probably shouldn't bring up the part where he and the others had encouraged Neil to join them. "How is Pluto taking it?"
"I know you didn't want it to explode, but it was stupid to not expect that it might." She glanced back toward Pluto's room. "She was mad at Neil... I don't know where your brother went."
"Fantastic. The last thing I need is to be caught in the mid--" he stopped short.
Anew blinked. "Lyle?"
Lyle was quiet, knowing that if he told Anew, she would more than likely pass it onto Pluto. And Pluto would not take kindly to what he had to say. "I'm not sure how to say it..."
"What?"
Very softly Lyle replied, "I might have convinced Neil to help get some of the supplies for the cannon."
Anew sighed. "Lyle... You shouldn't egg your brother on with stuff like this."
"I know." Lyle gently flexed the fingers on his healed arm.
Anew sighed. She didn't think Pluto needed to know that. If she didn't know already, adding fuel to the fire was probably a bad idea. "How badly were you hurt?"
"Not too bad, my arm caught some shrapnel, but otherwise I'm fine." He scowled slightly.
"That's good you weren't hurt too bad. Just don't do something like this again." She didn't want him to be hurt worse.
Lyle nodded. "I've learned my lesson: don't trust Duo with the explosives."
Anew smiled. "Good." She headed to the kitchen and returned a few moments later with an ice pack. She handed to Lyle. "It might help."
Lyle took it with a smile, gently placing it on his arm. "I don't know what would I do without you, Anew."
Anew smiled. "And I don't know what I'd do without you." She glanced back towards Pluto's room again. "Hopefully everything will be alright between your brother and Pluto."
Lyle sighed. "Would it be better if I talked to her now...or later?"
"I don't know... perhaps we should just see how things with them."
Lyle nodded, trying hard not to look too relieved. "That might be for the best."
She nodded. "It could be they just need time to work this out and right now is too early for both of them."
Lyle nodded. "Yeah..." He did hope they would work it out, but if Neil had left the hut, there was no telling when he'd be back. He could always check the hangar, he supposed, but then he would only be meddling again. He sighed and adjusted the ice pack.
Anew headed back into the kitchen and returned with a glass of water and some aspirin. She handed it to him.
"Thanks. It really doesn't hurt that much, but I think my sniping will be a bit rusty for the next couple of days." It was a good thing he wasn't back in his world. Tieria would chew him out for this kind of behavior.
Anew shook her head. "Considering we aren't fighting, I don't think you really need to worry about that."
Lyle nodded. "Yeah, I guess you're right."
Anew smiled. "Do you want anything?"
Lyle smiled ruefully. "I suppose commonsense would be too much to ask?"
Anew chuckled. "Perhaps, but you do need it." She walked over and hugged him.
Lyle hugged her back, biting back a wince. "Thanks, Anew."
"Oops. Sorry about that."
