[Mod] :: [Secrets of the Randomizer]

Hello everyone!

By request of one person, I promised I would let you see inside how the moderator-ship works. Now everyone knows how the affiliate posts work. Basically you guys comment, we answer with a set of cards to choose from. Here are some questions that have popped up in the past via messages and various posts before I go into more detail:

How does the randomizer work?
Well the randomizer itself is basically a code that is programmed to pick out as many cards as we tell it to. We have randomizers that are programmed to say certain phrases such as the "Please pick 1 out of 3 random cards below...", etc. Basically all it does is give us a set of code to copy x paste into each comment box as well as the actual preview of each set of cards (sometimes this part loads if you're on good internet... sometimes it doesnt...)

How many different types of randomizers are there?
The randomizer actually refers to many different types of randomizers. There are about 10 total. Usually one for every "different" type of post, so one for sign up, one for prize post, standard ones, mastery, event card, etc.

Do you ever edit or have to refresh the prizes more than once to get different cards?
We only edit the prizes if you guys want choice cards and we only refresh over again if you get two of the same cards. It does happen, trust me... >_> It ruins my groove when it does. Also depending on the moderator some refresh over again if you get two cards of the same deck. Once again, it happens, but it gives you more variety to choose from.

Are we allowed to know the link to the randomizer?
Only moderators are allowed to know the link to the randomizer. The reason being is that it is indeed a very addictive tool to use and refreshing it can kill the bandwidth on the account that mobiuswolf uses and can also slow down moderators who are trying to use the same code you are. Therefore, members can not know the link to the randomizer (except for the lotto randomizer which is a different webpage). No hard feelings, it's just the way things roll.

How does handing out prizes work?
Please see this post. This post is a little outdated, but is still the grounds we use to do all the posts.

For those who want to just skip straight to the screencaps I made earlier on the decent internet (had to walk across campus to get good internet, so hopefully thse come out alright), start here. I do not show ALL the randomizers seeing as how that would be really, really annoying to make screencaps of all the things that do basically the same thing.
Sized for a 1200x800 screen, so yeah. I used the F11 function on Flock (same as firefox) to get these screencaps without the URL). No editing involved.

This is the standard randomizer that we use. As you can see it only spits out 5 card lines and its the most basic of all the options we have. In order to get new cards you have to refresh the page. See below for #2:

Exactly the same as #1. Just copy x paste the code to the comment or template you need. No editing needed other than that.

This is the Index of all the limited event cards, jellopy cards only accessable by the egg event card, and pokedex151 (aka mew). Since those cards are only accessable by "choice" we have them in a separate place than the other event cards.

Oh and here's the randomizer for it. Follows the same idea as the regular randomizer.

This is the most commonly used randomizer that all the moderators use. It's the contribution reward code generator. Also known as "THE RANDOMZIER~". This is the one that spits out the code that we use to generate every single card that you guys have to choose from. As you can see, we try to save our fingers from editing every single time so there are spaces to input things such as "voting" in "community name"'s "week 29"! Then you input how many cards the member gets to pick and the amount of cards that will be generated (see this post for card amount numbers). Usually I like to double the number the member gets to choose and round to to the nearest odd number. As you can see we can turn on and off the choice card and the certificate chosen if there needs to be one.
Btw this is the randomizer I use to give out mod pay because if you select 12 cards to be given it'll give cards in lines of 6 instead of 5 which makes refreshing alot faster.

Information all filled in? GOOD! Time to generate! Click code GET to get the code! GO!

The information that comes out of the randomizer! As you can see the stuff that comes out of the randomizer is the picture of the C certificate as I told the randomizer to do. The three cards the person has to choose from and because I wanted to give the person a choice card it has a blank spot where we can fill in the card that we want to put in there. Trust me. It's a pain to have choice cards btw because you can't just refresh the page over and over and you have to update each individual prize set with the card they want.

Here is the event card randomizer. Simply put it follows the same code as the regular randomizer except that it only pulls up the directory for the event cards. Oh and as you can see it doesn't pull up any of the limited edition event cards. The way we use this randomizer is to just take the first card off the randomizer and give it to the appropriate people. >_> Yup.

What happens when you refresh~

The mastery randomizer.... This one is a slightly more fun one to play with. Obviously you don't get to "choose cards" since you have choices. So the way this one works is to input the mastered deck and however many choice cards relate to that mastery as well as the same amount that should be randomly generated.

Then poof! You have the code! Copy x paste and be on your way.

Sign up randomizer~ Follows same rules as all the others. Refresh and give teh choice cards necessary.

Special randomizer for those times that you need them. As usual they are kept in a separate directory for that purpose, but still pop up on the regular randomizer.

This is the randomizer we use to bring up lotto numbers usually... It basically generates the numbers used as blanks. The ones that aren't used as blanks are randomly selected to be used as prizes. :D Remember that the moderators who have access to this community (tcg_lotto) are only me and fiendie and no one else can see the screened comment with the winners. :D

Well that's it! If you have any questions tell me!
