time for the epipen

I went in today to get a new allegra prescription (nothing exciting, just ran out). I casually mentioned to my doctor that since the last time I saw her I can't eat soy at all and I carry benadryl with me just in case I do. She got all serious and said I had to have an epipen. I was really not expecting that. She says that my reactions will most likely continue to get more severe, not better, and I have actually noticed that myself (although I haven't had any soy in about 6 months. yay!). They don't like to mess around when reactions involve breathing difficulties and I understand. I just hate to be a bother. :P

She said the 15 minutes the epipen gives you can be the difference between getting an IV of benadryl at the hospital and being sent on your way or staying overnight (or longer) while they try to get your breathing passage open and stable another way. That doesn't really sound like my idea of fun, so I'll carry it with me. It's not exactly convenient but neither is not being able to breathe. ;)

I really hope the next epipen I get is because this one expired and not because I had to use it. :)
