Love is a funny thing. Merriam-Webster had to take many, many words to define this small, four-letter word that we throw around more carelessly than profanity. Can the true meaning of love be captured in human expression? Can our words or actions truly describe or show what we mean by the word love?
I once wrote that "No matter how hard you might try, you can't escape love. Once it has found you, it takes hold and refuses to let go, even when you do everything you can to shake it. You run away, it follows you. You try to drown it out of your mind, it swims back to the top. Love edges its way into every part of your life, even the parts you think you've sealed off. Love pervades your soul, completely consuming it. Once love has touched your heart, you're branded for life, and you can never go back to the day before it hit you." I firmly believe these statements. Once love has touched your life, you are never, ever the same. How lucky we are for that.
I might not be able to define it, express it adequately or even show it, but love is like faith-- just because you can't see it or show it doesn't mean it isn't there. And I am so thankful to God that He blessed humankind with this ability to love and be loved.
