Power of Words

Words. Simple, complex, by themselves, in sentences, whispered, shouted, spoken rashly, well-thought out speeches, conversations that should never happen, arguments that need to occur. Angry, happy, sad, encouraging, joyful, distraught, disappointed, friendly, hostile, peaceful, thought-provoking, silencing.

People use words. And whether they realize the effect of those words or not, all words have impact. They can evoke feelings of love, hatred, happiness, grief. They can start a war or settle a dispute. Words can part the best of friends or they can create new friendships. They begin marriages, and sometimes words can end marriages. Sometimes words cause murder, hate crimes, treason. But at the same time words can bring about peace, harmony, and fellowship.

The basis of all human existence is communication. Words should be thought before they are spoken. Don't say something you don't mean or that you might regret later-- at the time it might feel good to say it, but consider the adverse effects it could have on the person you are saying those words to... or the consequences those words might have on someone else who hears them.

Choose your words carefully. Think before you speak. Above all, remember-- before you say something to someone else, think about how, if you heard the same thing, how would it effect you?

"God gave us one mouth and two ears so that we might listen more and talk less."

"The heart of the righteous studies how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil." Proverbs 15:28

"And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. BUT NO MAN CAN TAME THE TONGUE. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with is we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so." James 3:6-10

Just a couple of thoughts for today.
