Summary: Inside Allison’s bag.
She’d once explained that a yearbook was just a photo album full of people you didn’t care about. Or she would have, if anyone had asked why she wasn’t getting one.
But now there was a small black book in her bag that was accumulating pictures and stories. It was stuffed with Polaroids of the five of them, mostly, each captured with a squeak and a scamper of converse. A school paper clipping about wrestling sat two pages away from a ballot for homecoming court. The stub of a pencil, neatly guillotined by John’s locker was rubber-banded to the book.
Most of the writing inside was her own, except for that on the first page. Neatly folded now, it still showed the wrinkles from when she’d snatched it from Vernon’s desk and jammed it into her bag. It may not have been hers, but it didn’t belong to him either.
