Eye of the beholder

Well, that was a lovely week and long weekend.

G treated me to a night away in a fancy hotel on the river for my birthday, and in the evening there we had an amazing 7-course tasting menu. We were so full it was ridiculous. But stunning food. Who knew pea mousse was not only a thing, but that it was delicious?!

I was also terribly spoiled with a home spa kit, complete with gorgeous fluffy towels, bathrobe, and slippers, and also two beautiful jumpers. Luckily G has great taste in clothes and jewellery so I like when he buys me things :)

He also included the little notelet that was sent with the White Company bathrobe and towels - he doesn't do cards, believes they're a waste of trees, but he wrote a note in that, and I will keep it by my bedside because it gave me the warm fuzzies. Clinical depression means that my brain sometimes is very mean to me, and makes me think poorly of myself - what he wrote means so much to me, and will help remind myself I'm not all bad.

We went for a mooch around a nearby town, and went for a walk to see horses. The weather wasn't great, but it was still nice.

Then on Friday, Evening Song was running at Yarmouth. It's near my parents, so we invited them along on our owners' badges, so it was great to see them (and hug them! Only been a year since we've done that...). Alas, Evening Song didn't run a strong race. I feel I keep making excuses for her, but the ground was too soft for her - all the rain meant it was 'good to soft, soft in places' and her jockey said it felt definitely on the soft side. She needs good or fast ground, so it wasn't ideal. Jockey reckons she should head back to Chelmsford, which is a disappointment - no one wants an all-weather horse - but worth a try if there's a suitable race before the sales.

Then on Saturday the weather was glorious! I spent a large part of the day doing housework while G mowed the lawn, then we put up the parasol and just spent time sat in the garden. In the evening we headed out for a walk to a pub in the next village over, and sat in the garden there with a beer, first time we've been able to do that since we moved here.

Needless to say, I got sunburned. Because as the pastiest person in the universe, it is a requirement on the first sunny day of the year to get lobster red.

Sunday and Monday were more of the same, it honestly felt like a little holiday. We did go play 9 holes of golf on Sunday, and while I am mostly just embarrassingly shite, there was no one else on the course so I felt ok being shite. I did get a double bogey on one hole (that's two over par to the rest of us) which for a first time playing is actually not too bad.  Also, there was an entire flock of geese on the fairway, which for some reason I found hilarious.

Was genuinely scared I was going to hit a goose every time I hit the ball.

Back to work (well, if you can call the desk in the lounge 'work') today, which is meh, but I need to get back into the routine and actually get shit done. All this laziness is bad for me!
