I'm not sure if this incident was racist or if it was just an instance of selfish entitlement. I'm standing in a line for a rollercoaster with my family when we discover that there are five people ahead of me and Younger Daughter and just four ahead of Spouse and Elder Daughter. Since the coaster holds two per car, this would split up me and Younger Daughter if we want to keep the cars full and the line moving. As we would in our home park, we turn to the trio behind us and offer them the option of swapping with us. This way, one of them would ride with the single ahead of me, and we could stay together. They refused. Adamantly. The woman kept insisting that she would ride alone, thankyouverymuch. The single ahead of me was black. The trio behind was white. We're in the former Confederacy. Now, I'm not saying that what was going through her mind was "I'm not gonna sit next to that nigger," but I've never had anyone turn that option down before.
Other than that incident, it's been great. So far, I have to say that Griffon is my favorite of these coasters. It's smooth, it's fast, and holy sh*! it's got a lot of DOWN. Don't get me wrong. Nessie is fantastic for a coaster that's almost as old as I am, Apollo's Chariot is delightfully fast, and the Big Bad Wolf is fast and twisty. But Griffon is so sweet. It's just about 30 seconds too short. We'll get to Alpengeist later in the trip.
