003: [visual, open] "No reason to get excited," the thief [s]he kindly spoke.

Aug 16, 2009 10:04

Gwen's been itching to get out of the sanctuary, so the breath of fresh Taxon air is actually welcome.  Hey, she even fired up LISA for this special getting-out occasion. The cute little regulating device is latched onto her back, making her all safe and people friendly. She hopes.  She's...not exactly sure it's going to hold up, seeing as Taxon ( Read more... )

"I'll take a look at it," Cordelia says, just because she wants to be annoying. "How much does it cost, anyway?"

Oh, yeah right.

"Lots. And it's not a toy, honey. Maybe we should let the big boys and girls have a hack at it."

"What? I'm appalled. Really. Appalled. Here I am, offering my help, and it gets slapped right back to my face."

Kidding, kidding. Mostly.

"What can I say? You don't strike me as really tech-savvy. It's pretty shiny. You might get distracted."

A tiny smirk. What? It's fun.

"I'm only distracted by shiny diamond-y things, honey. And besides, I only contacted you because I want to make sure that you won't be wearing leather for the party."

Ah. So there's a point to this! Besides being purposely annoying. On purpose.

Oh, Cordelia. If you want Gwen to not wear leather at the party, you tell her to wear leather. Now, have be graced with even wider smirk.

"What, you don't think it's proper enough? Maybe you should be a little more open-minded."

Truthfully, the thought of showing up in some extremely inappropriate leather ensemble hadn't actually occurred to Gwen. Now? That idea seemed mighty appealing.

"I'm about as open-minded as allowing a girl to come to the party in a tux." She shakes her head at that. "All Diane Keaton-ed up. I do not understand the appeal." Cordelia raises a brow. "And maybe you should experiment with fabrics more."

She pauses, as if finally, finally realizing that she may have taken the wrong turn here. Gwen isn't exactly the most honest person - hello, thief! - so the honest ways may not have their power over her.

She shrugs. The tux thing she'd never exactly seen the appeal of either. "So, jeans then?"

After a slight pause, she actually takes the serious approach and says, "Relax, princess. Unless I'm sure this thing is all good and ready to go, you probably won't see me there. Sorry to break your heart."

Sure, she'd been to social functions before. Hell, half of her clientele came from such parties, and the other half she was robbing under their noses. But a bunch of drunk dancing fools bumping into her isn't a great environment for someone like her. Not if she isn't completely sure LISA's intact.

"What? No! You have to be there!" Okay, desperate much? "I mean, who's going to be all annoying to me if you're not?"

Truthfully - the kind that Cordelia will not admit under the pain of painful death - Gwen's presence is sorta kinda a bit like a tiny, insignificant, comforting thing. She's from a future where, apparently, the gang is still alive and intact - albeit stupid for letting a 33-million-dollar object slip from their hands. So, yeah. She has to be there.

She raises a little eyebrow, but continues in a cheerfully mocking (albeit a little confused) "Well golly, that's sure sweet of you."

Gwen will raise you that tiny, insignificant, comforting need and raise you a similar need...because as far as familiarity goes, the Hyperion Hotel is the only thing that comes close. Sure, she was only there a few times, but it's the only thing from L.A. here she recognizes. But is she going to admit this?

"But like you said. Nothing worth stealing, right? And I'm...not a big dancer." Close contact, intimate...even post-LISA, dancing is something Gwen could never let herself relax enough to do.

"Oh, pft. The party's not all about dancing," she says. "There's also champagne-drinking and tons of mingling! And men! Some of whom might even have a secret hankering for--"

She was about to say leather - but hey, why encourage Gwen to wear it to the party? "--thieves. The whole kink and stuff."

Gwen sighs a little and glances to the side. It's her classier version of face-palming. She's always abstained from alcohol--on the theory that drunk and electricity don't...really mix. But she supposes it wouldn't be that bad. Hey, if she got too bored? She's sure someone would be donning a nice piece of jewelry she could snag.

"Tell you what, since you have that little pie chart all prepared, I'll think about showing. Once I make sure Taxon didn't screw around with my girl LISA. How about that?" A beat. "Oh, would you prefer red leather or black leather?"

"No leather." A beat. "Which is not saying you should come naked."

And she takes the words right out of Gwen's mouth.

"I'll figure out something," she says with a smile she hopes Cordelia is not soothed by.

"And while you're doing that? I'll be busy thief-proofing the hotel."

Oh, she scoffs. Because all the high-security facilities she's strut right through weren't thief-proof? "I'd be interested to see how you pull that one off."
