Kobra had never seen snow in his life. Not that he had ever felt a particular urge to do so; in the hot desert days he was much more likely to dream of buckets full of ice cubes than snow. Though he would've taken it, if ice cubes weren't available ( Read more... )

Cue Gwen, watching most of this from a distance. Being from Minnesota and having a job that sends her all over the world (before Taxon--when she was actually part of it), Gwen is no stranger to snow. But when it comes down to it, she likes skiing and that's about it. She hates bundling up, hates the big fluffy coats that remind her of being a kid, hates the snowflakes getting stuck in her hair, hates her skin getting drier than a desert ( ... )

Kobra had been so engrossed by what he was doing that he didn't hear Gwen approach. The ice seemed to hold up under him and he took a shuffling step forward, wondering if he'd be able to cross the entire lake.

When someone spoke behind him Kobra flinched, then flailed when he nearly lost his balance, attempting to turn around too quickly and draw his gun. Instincts are hard to strip off.

In the end he managed (gracelessly) to turn around without falling down, hand on the way to his raygun when he realised it was Gwen behind him. "Oh," he deflated, feeling stupid for reacting like this now. Especially in front of her.

"I...no. Why would you do that?" he asked, scrunching up his nose. They didn't really celebrate birthdays out in the zones because it was too complicated keeping track of time. Except for Ghoul, who insisted on celebrating after the Night of the Dead and Grace. They always just made up a day for her birthday though, because it made her happy.

The Killjoys were always good for a scare. Gwen never tired of it. To his surprise, she just shrugs. It's her M.O.

"'Cause it's fun. Ever heard of it?" She said, coming closer to the ice. "Right up you and your brother's alley." Party talked a lot of deserts, and she guessed if they thought light jackets were going to get them through a rough winter, ice was probably not a commodity where they were from.

"You have shoes with blades on the bottom," she explains, "and skate on the ice." She turns away from the lake to look at him. "It gets old when you fall on your ass twenty times, but it has its charm."

"No," Kobra shakes his head, though it is obvious that he's intrigued. He listens to Gwen's explanation with a small frown on his face before it lights up a little. "Pony would love that." But then he remembers that Show Pony is most likely never going to see this world. His face falls again and he sighs, stepping forward to get off the ice.

There's a crack and Kobra almost looses his balance as the ice breaks under one of his feet. "Motherfucking drac shit," he mutters and pulls his leg back up, now soaking wet and hissing when a sharp piece of ice scratches against his leg. What fucking shit. Kobra huffs and pulls a face when his soaked boot squelches when he finally steps of the ice.

If you fall in, I am not fishing you out.

[ this is just another demonstration of how much Fitz has FAILED in looking after his band. ]

Kobra startles at the voice, but realises that the tablet turned on soon enough. Stupid piece of shit.

"I'm not going to fall in. It's ice!" he points out the obvious, completely ignoring that he's got no experience with ice and lakes at all.

It's not ice all the way down, Kobra, just the top bit. If it break you'll be cold and wet.

[ and possibly in danger of dying, but he hopes he's gotten his point across without going into that. ]

"I know that," Kobra huffed because he wasn't stupid, all right? "But it seems thick enough. I'll be fine." Just then the ice cracked a little and he looked down, frowning. Well, crap.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you, kid," said Cain wearily, and without capitalization of the chosen name, for once.

"Not when it's barely frozen over, and not right at the water's edge."

[visual, aw he'd totally fish Kobra out though, right? :P] goodluck_kobra December 16 2011, 20:42:33 UTC
Kobra looks at the tablet and pulls a face. "Why not?" he asks, only sounding a tiny bit petulant.
