Kobra had never seen snow in his life. Not that he had ever felt a particular urge to do so; in the hot desert days he was much more likely to dream of buckets full of ice cubes than snow. Though he would've taken it, if ice cubes weren't available

When someone spoke behind him Kobra flinched, then flailed when he nearly lost his balance, attempting to turn around too quickly and draw his gun. Instincts are hard to strip off.
In the end he managed (gracelessly) to turn around without falling down, hand on the way to his raygun when he realised it was Gwen behind him. "Oh," he deflated, feeling stupid for reacting like this now. Especially in front of her.
"I...no. Why would you do that?" he asked, scrunching up his nose. They didn't really celebrate birthdays out in the zones because it was too complicated keeping track of time. Except for Ghoul, who insisted on celebrating after the Night of the Dead and Grace. They always just made up a day for her birthday though, because it made her happy.

"'Cause it's fun. Ever heard of it?" She said, coming closer to the ice. "Right up you and your brother's alley." Party talked a lot of deserts, and she guessed if they thought light jackets were going to get them through a rough winter, ice was probably not a commodity where they were from.
"You have shoes with blades on the bottom," she explains, "and skate on the ice." She turns away from the lake to look at him. "It gets old when you fall on your ass twenty times, but it has its charm."

There's a crack and Kobra almost looses his balance as the ice breaks under one of his feet. "Motherfucking drac shit," he mutters and pulls his leg back up, now soaking wet and hissing when a sharp piece of ice scratches against his leg. What fucking shit. Kobra huffs and pulls a face when his soaked boot squelches when he finally steps of the ice.

She takes a step forward at the crack in the ice, startled herself. "Woah," she says. "Guess it's not skating season, after all. Don't fall in. Electrocuting you in the water is not really what I had in mind for tonight."

"Shit, I thought it'd hold me," he sighs and looks ruefully back at the lake before shaking his head and turning to Gwen. "What're you doing here?" Transitions had never been his strong point.

And he doesn't seem to be doing so good, so Gwen thinks that's a long shot. She shrugs at his question. She came to the lake to get out of her house, to look at the sky, to be in a place where it doesn't matter whether or not she is a freak stuck in a freaky place.
"Just...restless," she answers, with a sigh. "You?"

"Same," he answers, kicking a little at the snow. he feels like he should still act petulant around Gwen because of Party, his instinct of being an annoying little brother kicking in. But he doesn't really have the energy for it. "I guess I like the snow. It's kinda cool. But all the cold sucks."

He reminds her of a little kid, still. Wanting to play out in the snow, running around on ice. At least he's dressed warmer than she's ever seen him. Not that Gwen's the queen of sensible dress. "You should probably hatch yourself a better coat," she offers. "Maybe some water-proof pants."
Reply
"What? Why?" Kobra looks at his coat, the one he didn't really hatch but got and shakes his head. He doesn't want another coat. This one is nice.
"Those are the only pants I have," he points out next, because pants don't fucking grow on trees in the desert. And these are awesome. They fit into his boots without being uncomfortable and everything. They are just fucking soaked now, which sucks. Looking up he wrinkles his nose at Gwen. "Are you the fashion police?"

She rolls her eyes. "You're the one soaking wet in the middle of snow," she points out. "If you're gonna go out and play in it, you should probably find something waterproof."

"Doesn't the snow, you know, make your electric cycles go crazy?" he asks, looking for a different topic and looking Gwen up and down like he expects to see electricity running up and down her body.
Reply
"Not really," she answers with a nonchalant shrug. Touching snow--like touching water--doesn't really generate any kind of charge. "I guess in theory, it should. But I never was much a of rule-follower." She smiles wide to herself at this. "Storms, though? It can get pretty messy."
It's an understatement, and let's just say she's grateful Taxon's weather hasn't brought much lightning.

"It definitely. makes me a little more...active, than usual," she admits, and then shrugs. "But I don't need it."
