There once was a mechanic and his wife who longed for a child of their own. They hoped and prayed, but their wish was never granted, and the woman took to staring out at their neighbor’s garden over the wall. Soon, she began craving the delicious greens that taunted her every day, and revealed to her husband that if this craving of hers could not be satisfied, she would surely die. Her husband, rather than let his wife perish, created a device that would reach over the wall to collect some of the greens for her.
Unfortunately, her cravings only grew upon eating the greens. He continued, night after night, to reach over the wall and collect from the garden, until one night the mechanical arm stopped completely. When the man peered over the wall, he spotted a woman standing in the garden and holding his device. This was the witch whose garden he had been taking from, and she angrily demanded that he pay for what he had stolen. When the man could not give what she asked and revealed to her his ailing wife, the witch grew sympathetic and struck a bargain with him: she would allow for them to continue taking her greens, but only on condition that they give her the child the wife would soon bear. The husband, in his terror, agreed, and when the wife gave birth the witch took the child as her own.
The witch named the little girl Kaywinnit, and when she was old enough she took the girl to the outskirts of Taxonia, deep within the forest. There sat a little tower with no stairs and no door. At the very top, hidden amongst the ivy, was a tiny window. The witch visited her daily, and each day called up to Kaywinnit to let down her hair. Upon this request, the girl would wind her hair around a pulley at the window, let it fall down to her witch-mother far below, and the enchantress would climb up to her.
Time passed, and Kaywinnit spent her days building small devices through which she hoped to talk to others. Despite the visits from her mother, she couldn’t help her longing for the day when she could go outside again. Secretly, she began work on a flying contraption that might allow her to someday leave the tower for good...
[[ OoC: Yes, Kaylee has a tablet, and yes, she is totally up for talking to people. And if someone wants to convince her to finally get out of that gorram tower, have at it. ]]
