The Doctor has been having a very bad week. And now, Helen's gone. In a way, that's more heartsbreaking than losing Astrid and Jack. Astrid and Jack have been gone from the Doctor's life for so long that briefly seeing them again and then losing them was almost expected. With Helen, she was the first friend he'd made in Taxon, and the only one ( Read more... )

"No word on anything then, Doctor?" She looks concerned; she hadn't been taking any active part in the whole idea of the trial or of a council, but now she wonders if she should ask Xander about it, with Buffy still healing. And someone disappearing is never good.

"Nope," the Doctor says, running a hand through his hair. "Last I heard anything, it was Morgana accusing me of...plotting or something like that. She seemed convinced I was going to hurt Petrana. Then someone made a post about her being injured, but everything was either locked or no one replied. I don't even know."

He scratches the back of his head. "You know, I'm beginning to worry that you, Tosh, and I are the only sane people in this whole city."

Tara smiles a little. "I've got some friends who probably qualify. But they're a little busy, right now." She's worried - even knowing the glitch will eventually solve itself doesn't mean Angelus isn't a big deal in the meantime.

"Why did she think you were going to hurt Petrana? Because she was guarding you?"

"I don't know," the Doctor admits. "I have a feeling that an old friend of mine might be trying to keep me in here. He's always been a bit...hypnotic. Probably caught her unawares, dropped a few hints about what he was planning to do to her, but then made her believe it was me. Perfect cover for himself. And since they know I can escape this place..."

He looks up to the window high above him. Everything seems rather out of reach. "Well, could at one point, at least."

He nods to the tablet. "Who're your friends? Anybody I know?"

The Doctor snorts, unimpressed.

"I'm assuming that was meant to wound, yes? I'm...terribly offended. Whatever will I do."

You can dig yourself a hole and bury yourself in it? Save us the trouble of doing it for you.

The Doctor rolls his eyes. "Really, now, is that necessary? I'm an old man trapped in a great big box without so much as a stitch of furniture. You could at least pretend to be nice to me."

Not that he expects it, of course. He's being difficult for difficult's sake.

Originally controlling her curiosity to check in with the Doctor, his post is a little too much for Morgana to resist. Even though she informed the master of the house the Doctor might be unwell, there has been no word since, and Morgana, keeping her promise, has not bothered him to inquire further. One look at the screen tells her no. The Doctor may be putting up a good front at feeling fine, but Morgana does not believe it.

"One would think your time away from your cell would have provided you the opportunity to escape it entirely, evidently not." She's certainly not going to start with any expression of concern, "It did nothing for your health either."

"Nah," the Doctor says, with forced nonchalance. "I could never miss a good trial. Been to 320 of them in my time, actually. I've even drafted an opening speech---do you want to hear it? It's quite good, I've been practicing inflections."

Her comment about his health doesn't go unnoticed, but he doesn't remark, except to straighten his tie.

"I thought you said you would have a 'not-trial,'" Morgana's learned to pay attention to exactly how he phrases things.

"So why prepare a speech?"

The Doctor's eyebrows go up. "So you were listening, then," he says. He'll have to remember that. He's already begun to appreciate the fact that he can't predict Morgana like he can some of the other residents of Taxon.

"How's this for news?"

Doctor, may we present to you both of Penelope's middle fingers? They're oh-so-proudly displayed to you via tablet, it would be a shame not to be properly introduced.

"I hope you can see this because I'm doing it as hard as I can."

The Doctor raises one eyebrow and looks decidedly unimpressed.

"'Fraid I can't, actually. Must be something damaged with the tablet. A bit harder might be best."

"Oh, jesus, I'm sorry, you're blind! That actually explains a lot. Let me just translate into the audio for a second."

She leans forward, and while not shouting, speaks quite loudly directly into her tablet's microphone.

"Fuck you, you trigger-happy sociopathic son of a bitch, and the horse you rode in on. There, was that any clearer? Or should I say it again, a little louder?"

The confusion on the Doctor's face is exaggerated to the point of mock.

"Oh, I'm sorry, I must've accidentally shifted in time to a few weeks back. That was when it was particularly fashionable to swear at me, death threats, that sort of thing. For someone as so up-on-the-times as I had thought you were, I wasn't expecting such a faux pas. Though I do have a post you can send me those death threats to, if you want. I can't promise I'll check them, not while I'm in here, at least---"
